Human rights advocates are calling for charges to be dropped against Chrystul Kizer -who faces life in prison for the 2018 killing of a man who sexually abused her- after the acquittal in the Kyle Rittenhouse case.

In case you were under a rock somewhere, you heard about the Rittenhouse case. The kid showed up at #BLM protests in Kenosha, WI, and shot three people claiming self-defense. Two of those people died. He was recently acquitted of all charges.

Child Sex Trafficking Victim

Kizer was 17-years-old on June 5, 2018, when she shot and killed a man who she met after posting an ad on Backpage, a now-defunct website often frequented by sex workers and their customers. The man was 34-years-old at the time and knew Chrystul was a teenager -16 at the time they met- but didn’t mind.

Volar was the first person to contact Chrystul after she placed the ad. She told him she needed the money he would pay her for sex for food and school supplies. The two agreed on a price and met up in a hotel, a relationship that continued for more than one year before the night Volar’s life came to an end.

Attempted Sexual Assault: Chrystul Fights Back

Randall Volar drugged Kizer and attempted to rape her on that hot June night. Kizer, young, scared, and destined to be more than a victim- fought back and Volar- who had a history of sexually abusing underage girls- paid the price.

She told police she took an Uber from Milwaukee to Volar’s Kenosha home and shot him because “she had gotten upset and she was tired of him touching her.” A neighbor called 911 to report the fire at the home a short time later.

Chrystul Arrested at Boyfriend’s House

.After shooting Volar twice, Kizer set his house on fire and stole his car. She fled the scene but police quickly caught up to her at her boyfriend’s house. She was taken into custody. Along with first-degree homicide, Kizer was charged with five other felonies.

She was held on a one million dollar bond, an amount impossible for the young teen to pay. After a judge lowered her bond to $400,000, the community rallied together to raise the funds and bonded Kizer out of jail in June 2020. She’d spent one year in custody by this time.

The court initially ruled Kizer could not use a self-defense argument, arguing the murder was premeditated. An appellate court later reversed this decision. The Wisconsin Supreme Court must now consider the use of this defense strategy.

Volar 2017 Arrest Reveals Shocking Information

Volar was already accused of sex crimes by the time he met Kizer. He was charged in 2017 with child enticement, using a computer to facilitate a sex crime, and second-degree sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old Black girl called police and told them he gave her drugs and threatened to kill her. He was arrested and released without bail on the same day.

Court records from the 2017 case show that police provided evidence showing Volar abusing multiple underage Black girls. They even provided video evidence of the abuse. The prosecutor’s office had the evidence in their possession 12 days before Kizer killed the man in self-defense.

Trial Date Pending Supreme Court Decision

A trial date for Chrystul Kizer is not set pending review from the Wisconsin state supreme court.

My Thoughts

I agree with human rights advocates and think the charges against Chrystul Kizer should immediately be dismissed. The courts/judicial system never ceases to amaze me and I hope she is found NOT GUILTY should the supreme court decide to go through with the case/charges.
