Father Commits Suicide in Jail After Beating Twin Son to Death

DCS was involved with the parents

Enoch A. Hayslett took his one-month-old infant son to a Chicago-area emergency room telling doctors the baby was constipated. Doctors examined the baby and learned that he suffered from a broken femur. When staff informed the parents, they could not explain how he got the injuries. Hospital staff contacted the Department of Children and Family Services. The department removed all three children living in the home from Hayseltt’s custody and put them in foster care.

Three More Children Born

Enoch wasn’t phased by losing his three children. His wife birthed another son and then delivered twins while the kids were in foster care. During this time, Enoch and his wife said they wanted to get their kids back. DCFS received two complaints against them, nonetheless.

Staff visited the home each time they received a complaint. Both times, they found the allegations to be unfounded. Workers stated that the home was clean and safe and they had no reason to believe Enoch or his wife hurt the kids.

Enoch Beats Son to Death

Less than one month after DCFS closed the second complaint case against Enoch, he beat one of his twin sons to death. Enoch called the police who found the infant floating in the bathtub. Enoch and his wife told police that the eight-month-old baby, who weighed about 20-pounds, had drowned during a bath.

The infant was covered in bruises, his body black and blue from them. An autopsy later revealed that he also suffered from a fractured skull. He did not die from drowning but instead, died from blunt force trauma. The coroner ruled the death a homicide.

The other three children in the home also suffered abuse, but thankfully, they did not die from their injuries. The 8-month-old twin brother also suffered a skull fractured and required medical treatment.

Enoch Charged; Commits Suicide in Jail

Police charged Enoch with first-degree murder and aggravated battery in December 2012. On Father’s Day 2013, correctional officers found Enoch hanging from the bed in his cell. They unsuccessfully attempted CPR on the man before transporting him to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. that night. His death was ruled a suicide.

Mother Never Charged

The mother of the children never faced charges in the death of the infant. State officials did permanently remove the surviving children from her care and custody after the incident.

My Thoughts

Why did DCFS allow three more children to remain in the home with previously documented reports of abuse severe enough to warrant the removal of three other kids?

What type of scene does CPS need to see that warrants the removal of a child from an obviously abusive or bad home? Remember Gabriel Fernandez?

This is truly sad. If you don’t want kids, if crying bothers you, changing diapers bothers you -whatever, then use birth control. Hate condoms? Then use pills or other forms of contraceptives. Still pregnant? ADOPTION!?! ABORTION!?

Stop abusing these innocent babies and children. Get in tune with your star player and deal with your emotions and anger like a grown-up. Go punch a wall, a car, I don’t care as long as it is not a child.

So sad!
