DEATH BY LIES

It was the summer of 1955; The last month before students return to school. It was the final opportunity to relax, to enjoy a moment of freedom, to get in some old fashion, non restrictive, play time.

1955, on a August summer day, now 65years ago, almost to the day; in town located inside the Mississippi delta called Money, Mississippi, a young fourteen year old, looking to peruse the summer dreams I just mentioned, found himself the victim of lying lips 👄, and a deceitful tongue 👅.

This young man, we famously know as Emmet Louis Till, after just speaking to then 21 year old Carolyn Bryant, was accused of both flirting, and as we know today cat calling her.

After telling her husband her story, he Roy Bryant, and half brother J.W. Milan both armed went to the home of Emmet Till’s great Uncle and abducted him.

They in the middle of the night, took the boy into the woods, an viciously beat him, mutilated him, and finally shot him in the head; all this before they sunk his body in the Tallahatchie River.

At the trial, the wife who was summoned to testify by the defense was blocked, as the judge stated her testimony was not important; and because her testimony, was not allowed, and the jury was one sided, the perpetrators known as Roy Bryant, and J.W. Milan were set free; even though the world knew Carolyn had lied, which she herself admitted some 53 years later to historian Timothy Tyson, even though the world known Roy and Milan killed Till, which they also admitted not 30days after his death.

According to the Innocence Project an estimated 2.3 to 5 percent of all prisoners of these states united are innocent. With the number of incarcerated Americans being approximately 2.4 million, by that estimate as many as 120,000 people may be incarcerated as a result of wrongful conviction.

120,000 people stripped of the dreams, stripped of their rights, stripped of the opportunity to purse their God given destiny.

Since 1973, more than 165 people who had been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in these states united..

Just shout death 💀 by lies.

But this is no secret, we have been told of the great story of the boy named Joseph; who also found himself in this situation.

Just minding his business, was Joseph when all of sudden a fast tale woman, we call em thirsty these days or a woman with THOT tendencies.

TRANSLATION!! “She was a sophisticated Hoe”

But because of her actions, her being the wife of Potiphar who also caused significant damage without a name, I’ll get to that in a second.

But this fast, thirsty girl with THOT tendencies, cost this man being Joseph his reputation, and even dare I say ruined his life.

When you look at this our American Story we find many occasions when lies and been used to destroy.

Many have argued this we know as the #MeToo movement has played to the pains of the weak in order to further equip the powerful.

If you will allow me for just a moment to return to the Emmet till story.

For some have question the decisions and even the state of Madam Mamie Till.

I remember, I was fortunate some now six year ago to accompany my aunt/momma Stacy to The National Museum of African American History and Culture; I remember as we came to the Emmet Till portion of the museum, she sophisticated declared this is where we part ways, God’s Speed as you go my child.

I had no idea at the time why she didn’t wish to accompany me into the exhibit, until I saw it; which caused me to even wonder.

Why Momma Till would ya do this? Why did you want the world to witness this horrific sight?

Why did you want us to constant relive the nightmare of that Summer August night?

And just like a strong mother, She responded.. Momma Till said the world needs to know not only about U.S. racism and the barbarism of lynching but also on the limitations and vulnerabilities of American democracy"

It needs to know that with one word, someone’s dreams can be stolen, with one word, someones life can be taken, with one word, a whole generation can be destroyed.

I wish somebody would shout death by lies.
