Have you ever tried the combination meal at KFC that includes chicken breasts and other parts of the chicken, as well as a side of mashed potatoes and coleslaw? If you have, let me tell you about the dark history associated with this meal. This particular meal was the last meal requested by one of Malaysia's most notorious killers, Mona Fendey.

Mona Fendey's case garnered a lot of attention at the time because of her reaction when she received the death penalty. Her case highlights the human tendency towards greed and the lengths some people will go to achieve their goals.

Here is how she reacted when she received the death sentence.

The case of Mona Fendey involves the murder of a well-respected politician, which added to the gravity of the situation. Additionally, Fendey was a former singer who turned to black magic and found success but ultimately saw her dreams fall apart. The complexity of this case makes it one that is still discussed today.

In 1987, Mazna Ismail, who later adopted the stage name Mona Fendey, released her debut album titled Diana. Although she made a few television appearances, her career as a singer didn't seem to take off.

Singer Turned Witch

M0ona Fendey's brief stint as a celebrity ended until she decided to pursue a career as a witch doctor. While it may not be a widely accepted belief nowadays, the world was different in the 90s when the story took place. It's important to note that Malaysians still believe in the supernatural, which may explain why Mona Fendey found success in practicing black magic.

Her services catered exclusively to the wealthy upper class, providing them with talismans and lucky charms that are believed to fulfill their every wish and desire.

The majority of her clientele comprised of politicians, who sought out Monafendi to secure their power in the highly competitive political landscape of Malaysia. It's worth noting that black magic practices are not commonplace in Malaysia and are generally viewed negatively by the populace. Furthermore, as Islam gained dominance in the region, black magic became a taboo subject, considered the gravest sin a Muslim can commit. Despite this, remnants of Javanese beliefs still persist in the Malaysian community, leading to the continued practice of black magic, albeit in private.

Datuk Mazlan Idris, a member of the UMNO political party who was speculated to be competing for the position of the chief minister, sought private consultation with Mona for a reason.

Mona Fendey provided Datuk Mazlan Idris an alluring proposal; she offered him the two talismans - a cane and a Malay traditional headpiece called Sanka - which purportedly belonged to Sukarno, the former Indonesian president, and which would grant him invincibility.

The people of Southeast Asia hold strong supernatural beliefs, and they believe in the powerful magic of these objects, which explains why Sukarno is held in such high regard by his people. Mona, in exchange for the talismans, demanded 2.5 million ringgit.

However, there is some confusion regarding the payment, as some sources state that Mazlan paid a deposit of 500,000 ringgit and offered 10 land titles as collateral for the remainder, while other sources did not mention these claims. Nevertheless, it is known that Mazlan withdrew 300,000 ringgit from various banks shortly before he was murdered.

It was confirmed that Mona Fandey had invited Mazlan to her home in Kampung Purus to participate in a flower bath ritual that was intended to bring him wealth.

Mona instructed Mazlan to lie down on the floor with his eyes closed while she placed flowers all over his body. Affundi, Mona's husband, and Juraimi, Mona's assistant, were also present during the ritual. Mona had told Mazlan to wait for the money to come to him magically, but instead, Juraimi took an axe and swung it three times at Mazlan's neck, cutting off his head.

During the initial days of Mazlan's disappearance, there was no cause for alarm. However, after a week had gone by without any word from him, his loved ones began to worry about his safety. Despite the authorities' efforts to locate Mazlan, the absence of any leads made it seem as though the trio responsible for his disappearance would get away with their crime.

Everything changed when Juraimi was arrested for a drug-related offense unrelated to Mazlan's murder. It is possible that Juraimi decided to confess to his involvement in the crime either because he felt a deep sense of regret or because he wanted to get back at the couple who had paid him only a meager sum of 180 ringgit for his role in handling Mazlan's body.

The reason behind the murder is thought to be financial in nature, as evidenced by the couple's extravagant shopping spree just 8 hours after the crime. They purchased a brand new Mercedes-Benz for 125,000 ringgit, a new phone for 10,000 ringgit, jewelry for 40,000, and furniture worth up to 20,000.

Mona underwent a highly publicized facelift, which took place two weeks after the murder, and the people of Malaysia were understandably horrified by her appearance. Can't blame them because she does look terrifying. Despite her unsettling look, all three of the individuals involved in the murder of Mazlan Idris were apprehended on the night of July 20th, 1993.

Three days later, Mazlan's body was discovered in a pit, dismembered 18 times.

A seven-person jury at the Timberland High Court found all three defendants guilty of the crime and sentenced them to death by hanging. The execution was scheduled for November 2nd, 2001, at Kajang Prison. The three accused filed appeals to the Federal Court, which were ultimately denied. They then turned to the Pahang Pardons Board for clemency, but this request was also denied.

The case created a huge sensation at the time because it involved black magic and the brutal murder of a prominent politician. However, Mona's unusual reaction to her death sentence took the case to a whole new level. When she received her death sentence, she appeared joyful and even smiled, saying "I'm happy, and thank you to all Malaysians."

Mona remained cheerful during the 8 years between her arrest and execution and was often seen wearing bright clothing, smiling, and posing for the cameras. On her way to court, she even commented on her numerous fans. There were rumors of paranormal occurrences, with some claiming that Mona used her supernatural abilities to escape prison for a drink and then returned before daybreak, although the prison officer denied these rumors.

The day before their execution, Mona, Afundi, and Juraimi were allowed to see their families for the last time and had KFC as their final meal. At 5:59 am on Friday, all three were hanged simultaneously.

Mona's last words before her execution were, "I will never die."

The last words spoken by Mona Fendey are quite unsettling and can be interpreted in many different ways. Even after all these years, many Malaysians are still afraid to discuss her case, which is why if you search her name, you'll come across many spooky stories about her abandoned home and jail cell. Despite the various interpretations of her final remarks, it's undeniable that her case still manages to shock people decades after her passing.
