Man Dies Attempting to Stop Sexual Assault

Patricio Salazar, a 54-year-old man from Arlington, Virginia, lost his life in October 2018 after attempting to intervene when he witnessed a man sexually assaulting a woman on the side of the road.

Michael Nash, a 27-year-old man, walked along South Mason Drive with a woman when he began sexually assaulting her. Salazar noticed the attack and heard the woman screaming. He stopped his vehicle and attempted to help the woman. Nash beat him unconscious and fled the scene. Salazar later died from his injuries at George Washington University Hospital later in the evening.

A witness told police that the woman said nash was her boyfriend and just “snapped” when he tried to rape her. He went on to say he spoke to Salazar in his final moments and told him he was a hero.

Nash got into a fight with two other people after fleeing the scene. He then stole a phone from a woman before police captured him a few blocks away. In 2019, Nash was sentenced to nearly 35 years in prison.

The Boy in the Box

Dubbed “The Boy in the Box,” Paul Martin Andrews was just 13 when Richard Ausley, a convicted child abuser, abducted, sexually assaulted, and tortured for eight days.

Ausley stopped Paul as he walked to a convenience store from his home in Portsmouth, Virginia, asking for help moving furniture. Paul agreed and hopped inside Ausley’s vehicle.

Ausley held Paul at knifepoint as he drove 20-miles outside of town before reaching his destination, a deserted logging road. He forced Paul out of the vehicle and into a 4x7 box.

For the next eight days, Ausley repeatedly raped Paul. On the rare occasions he left, Ausley chained him into the box.

On day eight, Paul heard hunters walking nearby. He pried open a section of the lid and began screaming. The hunters heard his cries and rescued him from the box.

Ausley turned himself in a few days later. He was sentenced to 48-years in prison but 17-years were taken off the sentence after 2003 parole laws changed in Virginia. Paul came forward at this time to share his story, afraid Ausley would get out of prison.

When Paul came forward, another victim also came forward claiming Ausley raped him. This caused an additional five years added to his sentence. He was murdered in prison one year later.

Baby Dies After Mom Places Him in Dryer

In December 2005, Lakeisha Adams placed her 3-month-old son, Jailand, inside the dryer and turned it on. Jailand spun around the unit for several minutes, causing severe blunt force trauma to his head and second and third-degree burns covering half of his body. Adams, who was also the mother of a 1-year-old, was 18-years-old at the time of the incident.

Adams called 9-1-1, telling them she was taking out the trash when she saw a man in black walking into the home. She rushed back inside, finding Jailand inside the dryer.

Adams later admitted to placing the infant in the dryer but did not provide a motive. She was sentenced to life in prison in April 2009.
