"We are only humans"

Time to remember that we are only 'humans' and it is more than enough

By Zainab khanPublished 8 days ago 3 min read

The beauty of the words "being just human" lies in the profound freedom and sincerity they offer. Embracing our humanity means accepting our imperfections and vulnerabilities, freeing ourselves from the relentless pursuit of perfection and the need to meet everyone else's expectations. It allows us to live authentically, to make mistakes and learn, to feel deeply, and to connect genuinely with others. In this acceptance, we find a sincere appreciation for life's simple moments, a compassionate understanding of ourselves and others, and a deep sense of peace in knowing that we are enough just as we are as in the end “we are only human”.

To be "only human" is to experience the full spectrum of emotions. It's the joy of a child's laughter, the ache of unspoken love, the warmth of a friend's embrace, and the sorrow of a farewell. Our hearts are designed to feel deeply, to break and mend, and to beat with a rhythm that celebrates both triumphs and defeats, but our mind gets too caught up in the worldly requirements. It pulls us back from embracing vulnerability that we find our true strength—a strength that comes from empathy, from understanding, and from connecting with one another.

In striving to meet others' expectations, we often lose ourselves. We forget to savor the present, to breathe deeply, and to live authentically. Our primary responsibility is to ourselves, to live according to our own values and aspirations. By acknowledging that "we are just humans," We forget to pause and appreciate the present moment, to take a deep breath and simply be ourselves. Our primary responsibility should be to live according to our own values and aspirations, not those imposed upon us by others. By acknowledging that "we are just human," we allow ourselves the freedom to prioritize our own happiness and well-being. This recognition gives us the space to live more authentically, make choices that truly reflect who we are, and find fulfillment in the simplicity of just being ourselves.

We are bound by our shared humanity, we all face moments of doubt, times when we question our worth, our path, and our purpose. Yet, it is in these very moments of uncertainty that we find the courage to move forward, to strive for something better. We need to remind us that it is okay to be imperfect. It is okay to have moments of weakness and it is okay to be human.

Our shared humanity also calls us to be kind to ourselves. Too often, we are our harshest critics, expecting perfection in an imperfect world. But to be "only human" is to recognize that we deserve the same compassion we offer to others. We must learn to forgive ‘ourselves’, to nurture ‘our’ growth, and to celebrate ‘our’ progress, no matter how small it may seem.

"being just human" is our capacity for resilience and growth. In facing life's challenges and adversities, we often discover strengths we never knew we had. Each setback, each failure, and each moment of doubt becomes a stepping stone toward personal growth and self-discovery. Our imperfections and mistakes are not just flaws; they are opportunities to learn and evolve. Embracing our humanity means accepting that growth is a continuous process, marked by both triumphs and setbacks. This journey of resilience teaches us to be patient with ourselves, to celebrate our progress, and to understand that every experience, good or bad, contributes to the person we are becoming. It is in this acceptance and perseverance that we truly appreciate the beauty of being "just human."

So, let us cherish our humanity. Let us find strength in our vulnerabilities, courage in our fears, and hope in our darkest moments. Let us celebrate the beauty of being "only human"—a title that carries with it the weight of our limitations and the boundless potential of our hearts. In these two words, we find a reminder that we are connected, that we are resilient, and that we are capable of incredible things. We are only human, and that is more than enough. And continue to embrace the beauty of being "only human”
