The Things That Creep Me Out

Not much bothers me, but these do!

Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot that creeps me out. I can hold most bugs in my hand as long as no stingers or pinchers, observing them with curiosity. No problem. Snakes, (the harmless ones of course!) don’t really bother me either. I’m more fascinated by them than anything. Most spiders don’t phase me either. Isn’t their web spinning and craftsmanship fascinating by the way?

I think most people if not everyone has at least one thing that creeps them out whether they’re in good company or their fear is completely irrational.

Here are a few creepy things that will make me run the other way!

Dark cellars

Don’t ask me to go down into a dark cellar to fetch something. I’m not doing it! It’s not the ghosts I’m afraid of or the shadow person lurking at the bottom of the steps just out of sight. It’s not so much the dark either. It’s the creepy crawlies that hide down there.

When I was little, I lived in an old house that had a dirt cellar. No one rarely ever went down there. There was no sinister reason why. There just wasn’t any need. I don’t remember who opened the cellar door but I do remember peering down and seeing ghostly white spiders hanging from their web from the ceiling going down.

That memory has been etched in my mind and is one of the first things I think about when I see an old cellar.

Did I ever go down the cellar as a kid to explore?

Hell no!

Centipedes

Growing up, I called them “thousand leggers”, getting the nickname from family.

Have you ever seen a centipede move after uncovering its hiding place?

They are lightning fast in a sense that it’s unnerving.

Where did it go? 😳

And the multitude of legs it has makes such movement even creepier.

They have to be fast! They’re predators after all hunting insects, spiders, and other creepy crawlies many of which are household pests.

But I don’t care what good they do. I still don’t like them! Matter of fact, they can still do their part and I will respect them. Just stay away from me!

Millipedes on the other hand though! I don’t mind at all. The centipede is like the evil version of the millipede as far as I’m concerned.

Tarantulas

I’ve gotten better with this fear but they still creep me out! Yes, I said most spiders don’t bother me but when they get past a certain size, then I’m going to have to reconsider.

I prefer garden spiders that spin stunning webs that catch dew drops. Even the little jumping spiders you find in your home. The way they dart back and forth gives them an amusing personality.

Fortunately, I live in a region where there are no tarantulas. The only tarantulas I’ve ever seen were locked securely behind glass at a pet store.

I admit I do find them fascinating but I don’t think quite enough to be able to hold one.

Mirrors in the dark

The things I’ve mentioned that creep me out so far have involved some sort of creepy crawly so this ones different and by far the most irrational!

Maybe I’ve been watching too many paranormal shows or reading too many ghost stories. Maybe its my overactive imagination. Whatever the reason, I will refuse to look into a mirror at night. If I absolutely have to pass by a mirror or stand in front of it, I will be quick and never make eye contact with the face that stares back at me.

It’s only my reflection. Nothing more than the dark and shadows playing tricks on me, Perhaps so. But try telling my overactive imagination that at 2 am.

So if there are centipedes, tarantulas, and a mirror I can’t avoid walking past down a dark cellar, know that I will stay clear. You can go down there if you want. I’m not!
