The Road to Hell. Runner-Up in I Made It Worse Challenge.
Framing Hanley blasted through my cheap headphones that I used at work. I had been mopping for what felt like forever... the guys in the labs had really trashed the place today, and of course the night crew—me and old Ed, who could barely move and just really hung on to the cleaning cart that squeaked all the way up and down the halls—got stuck with all the work.

I Thought It Needed Water
The plant looked dry. That’s important context, because I’d like it noted from the start that my intentions were good. Negligent people don’t notice dryness. Negligent people walk past suffering every day. I noticed. I acted. If anything, this situation began with empathy.

It felt as if the child within me chose what to listen to instinctively.

Dade: Chapter 1
I was popular in high school for, like, one second. I spent most of my life as an outcast but for one brief and long-awaited tour of being well-liked. And it was all thanks to my friend, Dade. He was handsome and funny and kind, and he liked all the coolest bands and movies. Everyone loved him, and being friends with him made me cool by extension.
