Embarrassment
This is Why I Don't Drink
My heart was beating out of my chest as I stared at myself in the mirror. I don't know how I let my friends talk me into this. I suppose it is my fault since I confessed I had never been on an actual date before. Normally I wouldn't offer up that type of information, but this ground-breaking confession happened during a drunken game of 'Never Have I Ever'. I should also point out that was the first time I had ever drank alcohol. You may think this news is not that alarming, but I should probably tell you that I am 25 years old. Pathetic right? I know.

Social Shock
I have never been that comfortable around other people. I have a tendency to come across either stuck up or shy, and then once I get comfortable, I will not shut up. I even wrote a poem about it when I was in my senior year of high school, titled “Shy Girl Who Never Shuts Up.”

I'm Not Drunk, I'm Just Cheerful.
Many years ago, I found myself in a serious pickle. Born and raised in a third-world country where most people live under the poverty line, I knew education was my way to build a decent living. After working my ass off through Medical School and then Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, I landed one of the very few available positions in the country as a University professor. I was excited and happy, thinking my gamble on a more extended education in a highly specialized field had paid off.

The night I experienced culture shock
When my husband and I had been married for only a few years, he began taking me to nightclubs on the weekends I felt at home because the other couples and individuals who frequented these clubs were for the most part working-class black folk having a good time just like us. I enjoyed dressing up, fixing my hair and makeup, and going out with my spouse. Around 1987 my husband started going out alone on occasion or with my youngest brother.

A high school pep rally gave me one of the greatest social shocks of my life
I entered high school at age 14 and was not prepared for what was about to happen to me. In order to get to the story let me give you the background. I was 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 85 pounds. I was the only African American student who was tall, skinny, light-skinned, and extremely shy. I felt awkward and out of place because no other black girls looked like me. The white girls came in all shapes and sizes but out of about 30 black girls in the school, I was the only one who looked like me.

What A Day
I've been embarrassed about numerous things all my life but one incident in particular made me feel like it was the end of my world. It was my 15th birthday and I was so excited to get up at 6:15 that morning. I was so excited to see what my day was going to be like. Never been this excited to see what my mother had in store for me.

That didn't just happen
You know when you are just sitting reflecting back on all your life and then there is this thought that creeps in and you say to yourself "Oh S**T" I forgot about that and then roll about laughing. Well I am going to share one of my most embarrassing moments. I had just had a baby and me and the other half were getting back into our sex life when he proposed we make a video of us, I agreed after all he was my husband and it sounded fun and spontanious. We did the deed and watched our movie back then it was put away in a safe place.

I Was a Bedwetter
From an early age until I reached 14 years, I wet the bed. Mama took me to a doctor when I was around seven to see if there was something wrong with me. The doctor ran a lot of tests then came back to say that there was nothing physically or mentally wrong with me. He said, “I think she is sleeping too deeply to feel the urges our bodies give us to get up and go to the bathroom, so she simply releases in the bed.” Mama was disappointed and I was sad. The doctor continued, “I suggest that you limit liquids after eight pm and wake her up in the wee hours and then again in early morning to use the bathroom until her body gets into the rhythm of getting up, then she’ll do it on her own.”

What Happened When I Tried Yoga
Ah, yoga...the mentally healing, body shaping, "relaxation" invoking work out that people have come to know and love. I thought about trying yoga plenty of times and even did a little beginner's poses in my living room when no one else was watching, fully knowing how ridiculous I looked. I have always been a bit of a "bigger" girl; meaning I have curves for days, especially in the hip area. When I was younger and had a metabolism that actually worked, I was flexible and could do a lot more things now than my body will let me do. I am a 28-year old trapped in the body of someone much older as I sound like a bowl of rice krispies when I stand up and frequently can't move if I sit on the floor to play with my daughter, cats or the dog for more than 5 minutes (probably actually 2 but I was giving myself the benefit of the doubt). These issues being a result of 10+ years of constantly being on my feet in uncomfortable shoes on concrete floors; not something that is too forgiving on the joints and back.

Unidentified
First, I want to tell everyone that I am not a photographer. I am still submitting my entry for this challenge. My husband and I moved from the urban area of the twin cities, Minneapolis, and St. Paul, in Minnesota, in 2012 to farm country in the north, between Grand Rapids and Hibbing. Since that time, I have seen herds of deer, skunks, hundreds of different kinds of birds; including eagles, hawks, and owls, foxes, porcupines, mink/weasel, ground hogs, field mice, mosquitos, wood ticks, bees, wasps, fly’s, ants, frogs, crickets, bats, and other unidentified critters. I believe I saw a mountain lion twice. I have seen many dogs, cats, horses, cows and chickens, alpaca, mules, ducks, and other farm animals. My grandchildren, living just down the road, have six pets for six household members. I think the pandemic has done something to them and others. People that never had critters now have one for every person in the family. And some people take their critters everywhere. And after mentioning many of the animals I have seen in the last several years, I do not have a decent picture of any of them. My photo for this challenge is very disappointing. Please excuse me. I intend to work on my photography after totally embarrassing myself here.
