A Day Of Small Disasters And Revelations

Introduction

Sometimes you think that everything has got it in for you. It is a hot day, around 28° C , but I still thought I would trim the bushes and mow the lawn, before it got too hot.

And Then....

The bushes filled the brown bin which I was not expecting, but luckily the leaves and branches succumbed to the rake, and then I managed to mow the lawn and fit it into the brown bin, just about. I counted this as a success, when at first I thought I might not be able to do it.

I think everywhere in life that happens, where by taking a different perspective you can overcome potential problems. So I thought and filled the bin for Friday's collection.

Next was to nip to the supermarket for a few essential, and as it is so hot I bought a salad for lunch, then dropped it staining my pants, and trainers and making a mess on the floor. One of the staff was very helpful and help me get cleaned up, before continuing on.

Then I went to check out at the autotil, which I tend to use because I used my discount card and supermarket card that are stored on my Google Pixel phone, and it means I am not holding up a cue while I sort out my payment with a 3.5% discount, or I would have done if my phone was not completely black. For some reason I had not locked it before putting it in my pocket, and it had reduced the screen brightness to zero, meaning the only way I could have any hope of getting into it would ge to get it into a very dark room.

So it was a case of paying without discount and waiting til I got home to try and get into my phone.

At home I used the dark room method and finaly got into the phone and then started wondering how the hell it could get into the system then choose the display option and the scroll the bar to zero. It did not make sense but this has happened before.

Then I thought maybe you can do it with the volume keys or start key (though phone has three physical buttons), so a web search gave me this.

Google Pixel phones do not support changing the screen brightness using the physical volume keys by default. However, you can use quick software shortcuts.

1. Swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers (or swipe down twice with one finger).
2. Drag the brightness slider left or right.

So that was a lesson learned. If my phone goes black I just swipe down with my fingers and I get the brightness bar and I can see what is happening.

When I go my phone back I decided to scan my receipt int my supermarket app, and it told me I couldn;t do it as I had already scanned a forgotten receipt onece this month.

Seriously?

I was unable to use the app because of the state of my phone, and you could forget many times and need to scan receipts. I see lots of software like this, which has idiotic restrictions because someone can do it.

Any way I checked later and it had actually scanned the receipt, so all was now good.

Conclusion

So that is how my day went.

It is still inordimately hot for me, but I am in a very good place, and am going to have a cold, cold drink.
