Why Andy Serkis Is Wrong: The Shire, Middle-earth, and the Myth of Whiteness in Tolkien's World
Andy Serkis said, when asked by the BBC why the announced cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is, so far, entirely white, that the cast so far is Jamie Dornan, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate Winslet, Lee Pace and Leo Woodall, alongside Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen returning, to the question, the film’s director gave this answer:

The Currently Reading Podcast
TV dedicates precious few minutes to any review of books in its news or magazine-style shows. Other than NPR, radio basically ignores that people read, and streaming services like Netflix and Hulu believe every person in the world can’t wait to listen to a sports podcast. Last fall, the National Endowment for the Arts reported that, according to its 2022 Survey of Public Participation in the Arts (SPPA), conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, 48.5 percent of adults reported having read at least one book in the past year. That number is regrettably in a downward spiral, but still, that’s a lot of people reading books regularly.

Post Office by Charles Bukowski – Review by Paul Stewart
Last year I really wanted to read more. I did read more than previous years, listening to a lot of autobiographies (I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks, but I love autobiographies read by the author. It gives greater depth and meaning to their anecdotes) and reading a lot of talented writers on Vocal.

In the Mirror
Peggy; O.W. Toad; the Canadian Lioness; our best writer... There has been so much print and ink shared on the life of Margaret Atwood that I feel that this might just be the most pointless thing I have ever posted on Vocal. I could have just read the book, returned it to the library, and got on with my own writing. That would have been the sensible thing to do.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles
It’s rare for me to find a book I can finish in a single weekend. I discovered this one while my husband and I waited for our daughter and her friend to complete an escape room. The other girl’s dad graciously offered to stay and text us when the girls were finished so we could make our own little escape. We gleefully headed down to the local bookstore for a browse.
