Nora Roberts has also written four short books entitled 'Rafe and Jared' and 'Devin and Shane' that are a part of the 'Macade Brothers' series. "Rafe and Jared' are the brothers to start with, and their stories are entitled 'The Return of Rafe MacKade' and 'The Pride of Jared MacKade'.

'The Return of Rafe MacKade' is the story of a family who lives in and on a haunted farm from the Civil War days, which is actually a famous battlefield and each brother feels differently for each have something to workout. Rafe comes back home and wants to rebuild what some say is an old, haunted house which he does believe to be haunted, and he meets a woman by the name of Regan who happens to be an interior decorator and helps Rafe with the house. There once again there are many ups and downs with their relationship for, they are dealing with living and the dead (ghosts) of the land. Rafe has many memories of this house from his childhood and has deep feelings for it in many ways and wants to bring this house back to its formal/former glory.

Do you think he will do has he wishes in more ways than one. One brother that into construction now on to the next.

'The Pride of Jared MacKade' is the story of Jared, the lawyer who meets Savannah Morningstar and her son Bryan. Jared likes order and likes figuring out problems by the book but looking for solutions the legal way and not the way he and his brothers solve things usually in a 'brawl' of sorts. Savannah has a past and Jared wants to know, but how to ask or offer his help he needs to figure out how to do this without starting some kind of argument.

Savannah knows that her past and she knows that she must share but in her own way and when she's ready. Family helping family for good and bad; trying not to hurt each other emotionally but at times this cannot be helped for even the ghosts of the property seem to help in their own unique ways, and the living will still need to figure a way to understand what the ghosts are telling them. Savannah and Jared have secrets, and will they come out when they study each other's tattoos. Now moving on to the brother who is also into law in a different way.

Nora Roberts continues these stories with 'Devin and Shane' of the MacKade brothers' series, and their stories are entitled 'The Heart of Devin MacKade' and 'The Fall of Shane MacKade'.

'The Heart of Devin MacKade' is the story of you guessed it Devin, the sheriff of the town and his friend Cassie and how to help her deal with her abusive husband that does not want to let her go. Devin is the law, but if he sees what is necessary somehow to do like how to use what he calls 'gentle violence' can' hurt once in a while. Cassie has a son by the name of Conner who just wants to protect his mom, and Devin has to figure a way to build a trust between the two of them. Conner has a friend by the name of Bryan son to Jared and Savannah. Will he build that needed trust? Devin seems to be the most sensitive brother of all the MacKades. Decisions must be made. It's all about making connections someway, somehow, somewhere. Now moving on to the youngest brother.

'The Fall of Shane MacKade' is the story of Shane, the youngest MacKade, the true farmer who loves the land and a woman by the name of Rebecca. Shane believes that the land and house he lives in is haunted but wants to pretend that it isn't. Rebecca comes along who happens to be a genius in many ways and lets herself be known. She is a parapsychologist and her research tells him a different thing.

Rebecca, a genius expert raised by boarding schools has really no memories of what a 'real' family is all about till she comes to visit her girlfriend and some fun events that will affect all in some way occurs. Shane loves the farm even with all the mundane chores and will Shane accept the ghosts and believe that they are there for a reason. Are they there in search of family.

All four of these novels the reader should read in order from Rafe to Jared to Devin to Shane from oldest to youngest, but if you do read them out of order each of them do offer very short flashback scenes to fill in certain activities of the brothers. These four stories are a fun read especially, believe it or not, with some of the 'brother fight' scenes or some would call 'fights of brotherly love' till someone decides to straighten them out, which wife will it be? In all these stories there are several aspects dealing with how the ghosts deal with each family member brothers and girlfriends.
