Now that’s settled, this post comes to you 🌱 free, but highly caffeinated ☕️and for whatever reason the number 12 wants to be included 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyhow, anywho; how y’all doin?

Last night, “The Household” was up listening to old school R&B Hip-Hop while dancing in the kitchen.

Yes, even MiMi attempted to do a lil two-step but immediately sat her old behind down cuz her knees are not equipped to step to Chubb Rock and haven’t been since nineteen- ninety when he first jumped on the scene.

😉 See what I did there?

If not, you may be too young to read this blog. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I said what I said; and it is what it is.

I believe one of the major things that was the foundation of my over thirty year friendship with my #BFFSIS is our genuine and sincere Love of music.

We were reminiscing about how as teenagers it was nothing for us to walk from her apartment complex to the Friendly’s Restaurant with my little plastic boom box and the accompanying red canvas bag filled with cassette tapes that kinda looked like the one above

Sidebar: I was also a really, young single parent who did not always have the disposable income to purchase blank tapes in abundance so I had to be EXTREMELY diligent with my song choices and one of the main reasons why reading LINER NOTES was how I spent many an evening and probably a cause of my vision issues. 🤓

And if you looked at the words “LINER NOTES” and you had no idea 🤷🏻‍♀️ what MiMi is tallem bout…

🤷🏻‍♀️ again #ISWISAIIWII

Since I didn’t have the disposable income to purchase blank tapes in abundance, I also had to be really calculated trying to record music from the radio. Luckily, I was blessed enough to have my Gram gift me her old stereo system which kinda looked like this:

I also believe this was about the time I sorta stopped watching TV unless it was MTV or that dope lil video show that came on Channel 2 late at night and introduced me to Atlantic Starr.

Shut UP!!! 🤣🤣🤣

IKR , the flashbacks alone are worth continuing to read this blog.

All that to say LOVED music and the stereo system I was gifted always had a tape in it and the record and pause buttons were always down.

FYI: if you actually had to look at the picture to discern what I meant about recording off the radio…

Anyhow, anywho, in my opinion only, 🤣 I got really good at making mixtapes and when I got my first real job at the casino, I actually was able to purchase more music and my mixtapes had a tight little flow to em. 😁

At least I thought so, and I was able to listen to my Walkman on the train ride back & forth to work.

Plus it was kinda my way of flirting too 😉

Ask me about the guy who worked at a competing casino with the high top fade with the cuts in his eyebrows, knowingly smiling at me when he heard the high pitch James Brown sample from Big Daddy Kane’s “Set it Off” screeching from my headset as we waited for the 6:30 am train.

His name was Shan and I remember he wrote me a long letter dutifully explaining to me what he wanted out of life and if I would like to join him on his journey by starting with lunch.

I said yes and was excited af but & I never saw him on the train or in his casino again.

But that song, Liz Taylor’s Poison perfume, and the NJ Transit Train to Atlantic City will always have a special place in my memories.

Kinda like making my first SLOW JAM tape and deciding on the order of the songs. 🤣🤣🤣

Look, it was timed and calculated to the second otherwise the tape would cut off but the song wouldn’t be over…

…and we ALL know, MiMi can’t sing…🤣

So what is the quintessential song to close out the SLOW JAM tape???

Guess you’ll have to subscribe to my blog & find out.
