Hi all!

Week Four of Tunes to Get Grooving To is here and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve discovered. Last week I brought to you five epic songs that were throwbacks to bands and solo singers who haven’t created music in a while. The tunes may have been old, but they brought you a refreshing new groove that you couldn’t resist. However, this week I’m back on track with bringing you new, and exciting music that you NEED to explore! So, here’s five new songs to get grooving to this week!

1. “Where I Belong”—Simple Plan, State Champs (ft. We The Kings)

Pop-punk is alive and well with this brand-new collaboration from Simple Plan, State Champs and We The Kings that was released October 11th. This new single is the first song from Simple Plan in three years and it’s safe to say they have brought the classic pop-punk vibes with them. If you were a fan of them back in the day then you’ll love this song; it is truly on brand for their style. State Champs and We The Kings have both been creating music more recently, both bands with released albums in 2018.

The three bands are set to tour Northern America at the end of this month, so the collaboration between the three is no surprise. It’s also no surprise that this song is catchy as hell. The suspense before the release of the single was especially cruel to awaiting fans, all three bands teasingly dragged out the announcement on Twitter, just so fans were on the edge of their seats! It turns out, their teasing announcement was a success, as the YouTube video already has over 90K views! In summary: the single needs to be played loud, and you need to dance hard!

2. “Good Day”—Surfaces

“Good Day” was released on October 4th by Texas duo Colin Padalecki and “Forrest.” (who has also released solo music). Surfaces formed in 2017 and then released their first album called “Surf”; on their website they state their “music exists to spread love and positivity across the world”. Their music is uplifting and has a tendency to bend genres, so their music is something you’ve never heard before. They also say “any song can become a moment, any moment can become a canvas, and any canvas can become an escape. In a world full of surfaces, it is up to us to interpret meaning beyond them” which I think is pretty dope.

This duo has an extraordinary view on the world that allows them to make extraordinary music that every person can enjoy. “Good Day” is a relaxing yet playful song that deserves to be danced to. This tune can turn a bad day into a good one, hence the title. It has the power to transform you from your bedroom—or wherever you listen to music—to paradise!

3. “Get Back Up”—Emarosa

This American alternative rock/ pop-rock band was created in 2006 and they have been adapting their sound ever since. Throughout the last thirteen years the band have changed their genre, had many line-up changes and also tried to refine the way they look at music; their Spotify bio states: “no band wants to write the same album over and over again.”

The single “Get Back Up” was released within their album Peach Club in February earlier this year. Their style has since changed from their 2006 post-hardcore sound and they have now joined the wave of synth-pop and pop-rock. “Get Back Up” is a motivational song, perfect for the gym or just for when you’re feeling down and you need to scream some motivational words to make you feel better. They’re definitely a band to check out and this song is one of my faves, especially as it has a super cool music video!

4. “I Want a Dog”—Hobo Johnson

Hobo Johnson—whose real name is Frank Lopes—first found fame in 2018 through NPR’s “Tiny Desk” Contest with “Peach Scone”. The singer is backed by his band The Lovemakers, and Hobo Johnson is the frontman who performs his mix of spoken word, rap, and folk. The video of “Peach Scone” on YouTube went viral, and people fell in love with this new genre Johnson seemed to have created himself. It was different, it was wack, but people liked it.

In 2017 Johnson released his first album The Rise of Hobo Johnson which came before his fame, and in September he released his second album The Fall of Hobo Johnson. All of his music holds his unique style. “I Want a Dog” is the perfect example of just that, the title is as obvious as it gets and the lyrics tells a story of how Johnson wants a dog, and a wife, and a house. He puts his own twist on the stereotypical life he wants, stating: “I want my dog to fucking talk”. The song is funny as well as catchy. Not everyone understands his music at first, but after a few listens I think you’ll fall in love.

5. “Sandals”—khai dreams

Khai dreams is a half-Vietnamese singer and songwriter who has been producing music since 2017. This young musician’s style is quirky and is a perfect blend between lo-fi and pop. His tunes transcend into a different life as his songs create a tranquil vibe to jam to. His singles “Ultimately” and “Lost in You” have become wildly popular on sites such as Spotify and Soundcloud.

His song “Sandals” follow the trend of most of his songs, with the theme of love and relationships. It features in his newly released album “Now and Then”; all the songs in the album contain the same ambiance, and it’s not difficult to fall in love with his music. The beat makes you want to slow dance and the lyrics warm your heart. 10/10 recommend checking this guy out!
