Getting Paid as a Musician
There are a lot of ways to get paid from your art. Most times, people think that it's just a hobby that regular people couldn't possibly make into a full-time job. But as we all know, that couldn't be further from the truth.

What The F*ck Is Wrong With Country Music?
Guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, bass, drums, and piano. All these instruments are associated with one genre–Country. Now, what’s country music nowadays? As far as I’m concerned, it’s nowhere near “country,” it is rather pop–pop with bro-kinda lyrics to be precise, which is quite challenging to consider “country.” The issue of country music not sounding country enough has been around for nearly a decade now. While there are pretty cool genre cross-over records such as Golden Hours by Kacey Musgraves, Hero by Maren Morris, and Folk Hop N’ Roll by Judah and the Lion, there’s a fine line between being respectfully creative, and carelessly bending the genre.

Kanye West is no stranger to making grandiose, and often shocking, statements, which seem to fire off in all directions at once, and which occasionally seem crafted with the specific purpose of shaking up the status quo, and challenging even his most ardent fans. However, it was perhaps his annunciation that rappers and hip hop stars were, and are ‘the new rock stars,’ which still sends ripples through the music industry today, and which continues to be the subject of plenty of fiery debates on both sides of the musical spectrum.

Skunk UzekiPublished 5 years ago in BeatMaking Money in Music with Social Media
Hey everyone! I wanted to share some things with you as this has been one tough battle to overcome. We are all aware of the painful phrase "Starving Musician" which plagues us so deeply. However, we have deep urges to create and it can not be ignored! We know this world needs the inspiration, we need music whether for advertisement, entertainment or personal enjoyment. There are different ways to make money after the industry has changed. From doing hours upon hours of research, trial, and error, I have discovered some things that helped us out so far. I would love to share them with those that are interested. (I am aware that there may be better ways of going about this. I'm writing about merely our own personal experiences and I am open to hearing about your experiences and advice.)

We are now well into the digital age. Everything is (almost) instant, and we have a world of information at our fingertips. So it begs the question, is a record deal really that important when you could just do it yourself.

Not too long ago, I wrote an article on the dangers of the internet. While that article covered many aspects of internet usage and abuses, I was and am particularly concerned with what those abuses mean for creative types like me. It has been a bit frustrating over the years to pour so much work into creating music only to be unable to share it on a large scale. I am fond of saying that if algorithms were done away with, creative people would be billionaires inside of a day. Out of six billion-plus people, finding an audience would be a piece of cake.

Very few degrees allow you to pursue multiple careers that may not relate to each other. One field that lets you do so is music, which has a variety of purposes besides creating entertainment songs in different genres. Some people are able to use music for therapeutic reasons, as well as improving cognitive functions.

If I had a dollar for every minute this phone is in my hands. Business calls, managing Instagram, checking emails, handling analytics. This thing is a curse! That guy in the picture up there, that’s me, Aaron Brown (Aarnxbrwn), during a sound check for a show. I am a full-time recording artist, songwriter, producer, engineer, and entrepreneur. Music has become my life, and out of all the expensive equipment I’ve shelled out money for, my phone tends to be the most important piece, by far. Everywhere I go, my friends and family are complaining about my phone usage. What they don’t understand is this iPhone is my doorway to opportunity. It could be my next show or event, someone inquiring about my shop (The Living Room RVA), some type of discrepancy in one of my businesses, or maybe just engaging with my following on Instagram. All I truly know is that I have to have it.
