The music world is characterized by a blend of constants and continuous change; Beat examines the inside of the industry from recording studios to record labels, live performances, music streaming technology and beyond.
The Hard Truth Behind the Music Scene
From the outside looking in, it seems like an easy gig. You get to do the thing you love—play, sing, write, perform—and get paid by endless adoring fans to do so. Travel the world, hang out with your friends, meet new people; it all seems pretty perfect.
Dating in the K-Pop Industry
It is known by now that the K-Pop genre is taking over the world, captivating everyone's hearts since "Gangnam Style" by PSY. Lately, it is the group BTS that has been performing all around the globe, with a bigger fandom than Justin Bieber's.
Support Your Local Music Scene
I’ve always appreciated music of many genres as the message behind a song can greatly affect my mood. Unfortunately, for a long time I was only aware of well-known and already established acts such as Slipknot, Turnover, and The Smashing Pumpkins, as well as festivals like Vans Warped Tour. Due to my limited knowledge and appreciation, I’d buy into these acts simply because it’s all I knew how to do.
Having a Successful Gig
I will admit that I have had my share of gigs in which I think I wasn't prepared enough. I think many are in that same boat. Music gigs are interesting because they generally are quite different than a 9-to-5 in my experience anyway. Sometimes you're called the week of the gig and sometimes it gets booked a year in advance. That being said there is no substitute for being properly prepared.
Top 12 Things Bands or Artists Should Not Do at Gigs!
Having over 35 years experience of playing in bands and musical groups all over the Northern Midwest and all over the East & West Caribbean (cruise ship), I have learned and experienced what to do and not do being a working musician. It really does not matter the type of gig that it is. I've done everything from church gigs, country clubs, theater/auditoriums, schools, bars, clubs, restaurants, weddings, wedding receptions, outdoor festivals, opening acts for pro touring groups, live radio and TV shows, and a three and a half month cruise ship gig.
Who's Got Your Ear?
The word “Influencer” is the cool buzz word in marketing. What is an influencer? It usually refers to a celebrity actor, singer, athlete, or internet sensation. When it comes to music, it’s whoever has the ear of a lot of people for a lot of time. If you ask the record companies who is the biggest influencer of the general public, they will say radio. But this may not be true anymore. Today, it might just well be the nightclub DJ.

Memphis Music Legends: Don Mann and Memphis Records, LLC
Donald Cameron Mann, the quintessential Renaissance man, who was a quiet force in the changing music business at the turn of the century played a huge role in the Memphis Music Scene, then and now. He lived a full life, while remaining introverted and behind the scenes, and the mark he left on the world tells the story of life well lived and a legacy securely in place. Well read, educated, fearless and altruistic, Mann was the type of human being we all strive to be or should desire to be.
Being Vocal on the Music Industry
We all love music. No matter whether we're a fan of rock, pop, or rap. Whether we're listening to the golden oldies (me) or the top 40s, music is a big, big part of our lives; we hear it nearly constantly.
Granny’s Basement to the Grammy’s, Can Anyone Do It?
In 2018, the genre of Hip-Hop and Rap has been greatly influential to many of the youth, good and bad. It's Okay to Admit You like Rap, Karen
I used to be a rarity. The oldest female in the audience of a show, and actually singing the lyrics, not just accompanying my underage daughter. I had come a long way from my late husband blaring Birdman and me nervously turning the volume dial down before someone looked over in disdain. I no longer felt the need to hide the fact I preferred Tupac, Biggie, and WuTang with my latte rather than Brantley Gilbert, Florida Georgia Line, or Andy Grammar. Times have changed.
Debut Single Guidance
The launch of my Debut Single "My Savior" was nothing shy of a true battle. I faced challenges. It may seem like an easy task. I assure you if quality and a spirit of excellence is within you, nothing you do for the greater good will come easily. You will have to fight for it. But anything you are doing in life worth pursuing, for the greater good is worth the effort. I want to share a few tips on how I survived the launch of my new single.
