Lately my mind's been racing. Lately I’ve been thinking a whole lot. I'm Cal, by the way. I'm an independent artist, writer, playlist curator, and an ebook publisher.
I spend most of my days like everyone else; work, work, work, and more work. Hours can get pretty long, and to help pass some time I always find creative ways to use my brain.
For instance, when writing my first ebook Step by Step to Royalties. I thought about other artists like myself that are interested in gaining more streams. Yes, we all have hobbies, and we all have real jobs, but how can we combine the two.
I'm 33 years old, and I’ve been told directly, and indirectly, that I should leave my hobby alone. I gave this some thought and told myself, why should I, if these are the things I love? What I do on my spare time compared to others is not much of a typical thing. You might binge watch Netflix for hours, while I look for instrumentals. You might want to watch reruns of Friends, while I google how to mix.
My love for my craft is mine, and when someone says your getting too old for this hobby it worries me. Not solely for myself, but it's a term of disregard for personal talents, and why would someone waste that right?
Well to put it all in perspective, to allow my brain some mental recess. I figured out some ways to gain a small line of income for doing my craft. I figured if I can manage to get $100 a month, or even a little less for doing something I love, that's a win-win for me, and I’ll have a specific answer for when people ask, “why do you do what you do.”
It's simple. I do it for the love, and now, for some residual passive income. This income can help fund beats and promotion, which otherwise would just be for ordinary spending.
In my ebook I give tips and references on how to do just that. Every artist has goals, some vary from others. For me, I told myself I should figure out a way to at least get something for it. Because it is time that I spend on myself, time your fiancé, or girlfriend, would say you could use to catch up on Game of Thrones LOL (I personally heard that one).
Ok, so now for the real stuff, I found joy in writing this ebook, because it's short and sweet, and very informative. I explain everything–from where to go to upload your songs, to how to promote yourself, and who to contact to help you gain more streams, which in return will get you more pay outs.
Also, if you’d like to submit to my playlist, send me an email or DM on Instagram (info below). Or if you want to hear the playlist and see what new and upcoming artists I recommend, those are up too. Give us a listen here.
