What inspired you to write your latest single?

"NOBODY" was inspired by Justin Bieber and WizKid. I wanted to combine R&B with that international Afrobeat sound. I wanted to express how sometimes it feels like no one understands me or how I feel. It's almost like being stuck inside a box; I think many people can relate to that feeling.

I want listeners to know that even in moments of loneliness and isolation, they are not alone. That's why I wanted to create a melodic and powerful song. The lyrics speak to the emotions of feeling misunderstood and unheard. And I liked the production to match that intensity with a driving beat and ethereal textures.

What was it like bringing your vision to life with this record?

My engineer, Throne Kid, brought my idea to life by chopping up some of my vocals. We wanted to make something that was different from any of the other songs I had made before. We also worked on finding the right balance between acoustic and electronic instruments to create a unique soundscape.

I also needed to make sure that the lyrics spoke directly to people.

Could you please share a glimpse of the creative process you endure while making a new record?

“So initially, I recorded everything by myself at home. I start by scrolling through beats until I connect with one. I record myself & create a demo. My engineer then puts the finishing touches on it in a separate session. We chop up my vocals and add additional layers of instrumentation. Then I take it back home to finish writing & recording the lyrics. This is a process I like to go through with every song. It lets me get in touch with my emotions and ensure I'm communicating what I set out to in the beginning. Once we have a finalized version, then I take it to my label for them to give their final feedback and approval.

Once the song is approved, I then send it off to be mixed and mastered. Depending on the song's complexity, this process usually takes anywhere from a day to a week.

Overall, it's always a very gratifying experience to be able to bring my vision to life.”

What are you hoping that your audience takes away from the music you make?

“I truly hope anyone that hears my music can connect with the passion I put into it. I am not an artist looking to sell a lifestyle. This is a memoir of my life. I want the audience to be mentally and emotionally stimulated. I want them to feel something, whether it's joy, sadness, anger, or peace. I want my music to be a haven for anyone who listens, and I want them to know that no matter what circumstances come up in life, there is always a way to find the light.

I hope that my music can be an escape for anyone feeling low or stuck in a rut. Ultimately, I want my music to connect with people and make them feel seen and heard.”

What has been your personal favorite release of 2022 so far? Why?

“I'd say Nobody is my favorite release because it is my most international record. It felt good to get in touch with my African roots. I do hope to tour there in the near future. Matter of fact, I definitely want to tour Africa. My dream right now is to be able to perform my music around the world and connect with people from different cultures. I know it will be a fantastic experience, and I'm looking forward to seeing how people react to my music in different parts of the world. I'm excited to see how my music will be received in Africa and other places!”
