Spend Christmas with Willy Chirino

Or at least his music

By Rikki la rougePublished 6 months ago 3 min read

In recent years Willy Chirino released two Christmas albums one was “Llegó la Navidad” and “Navidad en Familia”.

Willy knows how to serve up wonderful holiday concerts and television specials be it for Valentine’s Day or Christmas.

On “Llego la Navidad” he treats us to holiday variations of some of his popular secular songs with “en casa Willy Chirino “ a variation of “Artista Famoso” from his 1990 “Acuarela de Caribe” álbum. There is also a song “campeones” a celebration of being Latino and it is a variation of “campeones de salsa” from his “pa’lantern” album . There are also new songs on the album too.

Willy comes with a rocking merengue song called “conga navideña” and its a fun song who else but Willy can make you dance for the holidays. Another new holiday track El Niño Jesus to celebrate Jesus who is the reason for the season and “el niño Belen”, another beautiful song that speaks of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. “Felicidades” is another holiday original from Willy Chirino and Willy is true to Christmas when he put out his album “llegó la navidad” and Christmas has come. Willy is a maestro of Christmas music.

For “Llegó La Navidad” Willy and family did a Christmas special of music and family for AmeriTeve in Miami, Florida. Another Willy Chirino original song “Al Ritmo de Miami” comes in both a merengue and salsa version, another track that celebrates the music of Miami that Willy is one of the key musical architects of the creation of the legendary Miami sound. It’s Great! “Todo Pasa” another version of the same song from his Grammy Award winning album “Son del Alma”.

The Christmas album that Willy did with his wife Lissette and his family “Navidad en Familia” was first given out to those who attended the Christmas concert of the same name.

I was lucky to receive a copy of this wonderful Christmas album from Willy Chirino and family. Lissette does a beautiful rendition the Little drummer boy in Spanish called “el tambolero”. It was truly moving. Willy’s track “el niño Jesus” which was first available on “Llegó La Navidad” makes a second appearance on “Navidad en Familia”, this song is truly a touching song it is the song about the birth of Jesus and how Mary and Joseph had been turned away from everywhere they went until they found the manger.

The album is very fun and truly has the spirit of Christmas like all of his Christmas work. His grand daughter Elis sings her heart out on “Let it Snow”. The whole family sings together on a fun merengue number called “Puerto Rico en Navidad” and they also do a track in Spanish of “noche de Paz/ Blanca Navidad” in English it’s “Silent Night and White Christmas”. All of the Chirino family do wonderful jobs on their songs that they had recorded for the album. Angie does “The Christmas Song”, Jesse and Alana do a duet on “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, and Willy literally brings it on home with “En casa e’ Willy Chirino” in English it’s “In Willy Chirino’s house” and “Ven a mi Casa está Navidad” in English it’s “Come to my house this Christmas”. The idea of the album was very simple it’s how the Chirino’s celebrate the Christmas season with family and friends. At the time the album was only available in solid copy and given out at the concert I had it sent from Miami. At the time it was only available in digital stores primarily. It is a wonderful album!
