Let’s face it: Valentine’s Day sucks if you’re single. Sure it may not bug you too much, but when you see all the cute couple action going on during the Valentine’s Day craze, it can be a little upsetting. Me? I’m single as a Pringle, and I love it. Over the years, the best way I’ve coped with being single on this holiday is by making it a Self-Love Day. You’re great, and the most important love of all, in my opinion, is the love you have for yourself. Instead of feeling sad for what you don’t have, it may be worth it to look inward and appreciate all the wonderful things that make you who you are.

I’ve got a few songs to help with this, of course. There’s a song for everyone here, and hopefully they can help you see how much you deserve to love yourself.

1. Here Comes a Thought – AJ Michalka & Estelle

This is a song from an awesome cartoon, Steven Universe. In a show all about relationships and mental battles, this song comes as a breather for when you feel down on yourself. "Here Comes a Thought" is a short song, but it’s right to the point. It reminds you to mentally be kind to yourself. Our brains often like to self-sabotage and give us worst case scenarios in life, and it can feel overwhelming. This song helps to navigate through those rough moments and remind you that it’s just one thought of many. We need to take time to baby ourselves and take a breather. We’re allowed to make mistakes, so pause for a moment and listen to this song. Give yourself that breather you deserve.

2. DALLA DALLA – ITZY

I had to have a fantastic K-pop song on here too, of course. ITZY is known for having insanely catchy, high energy songs you’ll be dancing to for weeks. While they have other songs about celebrating the badass that is yourself, I’m thinking "ICY" and "WANNABE", "DALLA DALLA" is particularly amazing. Don't worry though, the other two songs are on my Self-Love playlist below. This song is in your face, screw your haters, daring you to be different. My particular favorite line is, “Don’t need Prince Charming, ain’t got time for love.” Embracing all the unique qualities that make you who you are is important, and why not listen to an absolute banger while getting that motivation? Like ITZY says, keep your chin up. Be a badass.

3. Good As Hell – Lizzo

I know this one is already on your playlist, I know. But it’s just so damn good! I feel like a million bucks when I listen to "Good As Hell", and with good reason. It’s a song all about feeling great about yourself and valuing all the amazing things you have to offer. And this is Lizzo saying it. She’s the queen of all things badass, beautiful, and bold. This is another song about standing up for yourself and who you are. Don’t let anyone step on you. You’re worth so much, and you deserve to feel good as hell about yourself. Pose in front of the mirror, compliment yourself. Lizzo’s song is wildly catchy and should be the anthem that gets stuck in your head.

4. Party for One – Carly Rae Jepson

This one is so much fun, and more than anything I suggest watching the video along with it. Jepson has a lot of fun videos and lyrics for her music, and this one is no exception. While some of her most popular ones are about relationships, this one is all about the singles living it up and enjoying themselves. It’s a song that’ll make you want to have fun. It’ll make you smile and dance around your room. Good vibes are important, and "Party for One" will give you those in spades. It’s a great song to help you forget about all your haters and throw a little party for yourself.

5. Feeling Myself – Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé

Let’s end it off with a great hip hop song from two absolute queens of the music industry. This is a powerful song; the attitude Nicki and Beyoncé give with their vocals will seep right into your bones while you listen. If you want a song that will make you feel fierce and ready to tackle anything, this is it. With "Feeling Myself", you’ll get that confidence to be comfortable in your own skin. It’s a great way to love yourself; with conviction about how strong you are.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to leave that sad taste in your mouth if you’re single. Instead of an Anti-Valentine’s Day, think of it as a Self-Love Day. This time of the year can feel a bit rough, but always remember to be kind to yourself, because there’s only one you. You’re wonderful and if you don’t have a significant other to appreciate that yet, then go all out and celebrate yourself. Check out the rest of the playlist below!
