Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter E. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, and D.

“Eternal Flame” is a song that was recorded by the American pop-rock band The Bangles. It is on their 1988 album Everything. This power ballad was written by band member Susanna Hoffs along with the songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelley. The song was released as a single in 1989 and rose to number one on the charts in nine countries. Since then many other artists have done cover versions of it.

“Every Rose Has Its Thorn” is a power ballad that was recorded by the American glam metal band Poison. It was released as the third single from their 1988 album Open Up and Say…Ahh! This became the band’s signature song and their only number one hit in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song also charted in the US. It was listed at number 34 on VH1’s list of 100 Greatest Songs of the ‘80s.

“Elenore” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band The Turtles. The song was written by Howard Kaylan but was co-credited to all five members of the band. The song was written as a satire of their biggest pop hit “Happy Together”. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts.

“Everlasting Love” is a song that was written by Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden. It originally became a 1967 hit for American musician Robert Knight. One of the most successful cover versions was recorded by American R&B, soul, funk singer, and songwriter Carl Carlton in 1973. The song became a disco favorite and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B Top 10 charts.

“Every Beat of My Heart” is a song that was recorded by British rock and pop singer and songwriter Rod Stewart in 1986. It is on his album of the same name. The song was released as a single along with three other singles from the album. The song charted on the UK Singles chart and became the biggest hit from the album.

“Elusive Butterfly” is a song that was written and recorded by American folk music singer and songwriter Bob Lind. It came out as a single in 1965. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

“Early Morning Rain” is a song that was written and recorded by Canadian singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. The song is featured on his 1966 album Lightfoot! The song was associated with the singer. It has been recorded by many other artists since then.

“Every Breath You Take” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Police. It is on their 1983 album Synchronicity. The song was written by British musician and actor Sting. The single became the biggest hit of 1983 in the US and Canada. It rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. The song won the Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards. For this song, Sting received the 1983 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors. It became the signature song for both The Police and Sting.
