Usually we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter D. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, and C.

“Da Doo Ron Ron” is a song that was written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector. The song became a Top Five hit for the American girl group The Crystals in 1963. The Crystals version is listed at number 114 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is also on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of 500 Songs That Shaped Rock.

“Dawn (Go Away)” is a song that was written by Bob Gaudio and Sandy Linzer. It became a hit when it was recorded by the American rock and roll group The Four Seasons in 1963. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Originally the song was written as a folk song but with band member Frankie Valli’s suggestions of speeding up the tempo the song became popular and a favorite.

“Day After Day” is a song that was recorded by the British rock band Badfinger. It is featured on their 1971 album Straight Up. The song was written by Pete Ham and produced by George Harrison. When released it became the biggest hit for the band and charted on the US and UK charts. In 1972 the song was certified Gold and was the band’s first and only gold single.

“Dancing in the Dark” is a song that was written and recorded by American rock singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It is featured on his 1984 album Born in the USA and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is listed on the list 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Do You Want to Dance” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer Bobby Freeman in 1958. It charted on both the Billboard Top 100 Sides Pop and the Billboard R&B charts. The song has many cover versions but the one that made the song popular was by the American punk rock band The Ramones in 1978. It was featured in the film “Rock n’ Roll High School” and suddenly everybody wanted to dance.

“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” is a song that was recorded by the British New Wave music duo Eurythmics. It is featured on the album of the same name from 1983. The song was released as the fourth and final single from the album, It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles charts. The song was the first single by the duo Eurythmics released in the US. It is listed on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and has been selected by the US Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.

“Dance Me to the End of Love” is a song that was written and performed by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen in 1984. It is on his album Various Positions. The song follows a typical Greek “Hasapiko” dance path. Cohen was inspired by his love for the Greek island of Hydra. The song grew in popularity and has been recorded by many different artists. The most memorable version is the original by Leonard Cohen.
