Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

A Nocturnal Related Playlist With Mikeydred Type Observations

Introduction

This is just a light-hearted playlist that I thought about doing by listening to the first "Help/Warchild" album, below is the introductory text from the website, it was the Blur contribution that stimulated this playlist.

The HELP album was recorded in a single day in September 1995 across multiple studios and released less than a week later. In a time before WeTransfer, iPhones and email, HELP raised over £1.25 million enabling War Child to bring much-needed emergency support to thousands of children caught up in the Bosnian conflict.

Blur - "Eine Kleine Lift Musik"from the first "Help" Warchild Album

A light-hearted swipe at the nature of lift music from Blur and the inspiration for this playlist. The "Help" is amazing with some great covers and even better originals. It spawned a lot of sequels and all are worth being part of your collection.

"The Night" by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons produced an amazing breadth of music, and though this is not my favourite song by them (that is "Silver Star") this dark song became a Northern Soul standard and is perfect to continue this nocturnal list of wonderful songs.

"Night of the Pigs" by Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come from "Galactic Zoo Dossier"

This is a silly song from Kingdome Come, they were a talented band with lots of great ideas and produced some amazing music but this was just a minute of silly fun.

"Ladies Night" by Kool and the Gang

A superb slice of disco continuing the nocturnal theme of this playlist, a great song worth four minutes of your attention.

"Night Shift" by The Commodores

One of many favourites of mine by the Commodores taking the sound and mood of Marvin Gaye in their brilliant tribute.

This was released in 1985 and was the title track from their eponymous album. The song was written by lead singer Walter Orange in collaboration with Dennis Lambert and Franne Golde as a tribute to soul/R&B singers Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, both of whom died in 1984. The song was released as the album's first single in January 1985 by Motown Records. "Nightshift" was recorded in 1984 and became the Commodores' first hit after Lionel Richie's departure from the group.

"Night Moves" by Bob Seger

I love Bob Seger's minimalist chord constructions to make absolutely wonderful rock songs. This starts on an acoustic strum and then grows from there. It is just one of so many great songs in his catalogue.

"Night Fever" by The Bee Gees

From the iconic soundtrack to the film "Saturday Night Fever".

It first appeared on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Producer Robert Stigwood wanted to call the film Saturday Night, but singer Robin Gibb expressed hesitation at the title. Stigwood liked the title Night Fever, but was wary of marketing a movie with that name. He combined the two suggestions and the idea for Saturday Night Fever as a motion picture was born

"All Night Long" by Lionel Richie

One of many great songs by the ex-Commodore to continue us down this path of the night.

"Nights In White Satin" by The Moody Blues

Thus was written and composed by Justin Hayward and first featured as the segment "The Night" on their concept album "Days of Future Passed"

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Mozart is a stunningly prolific composer and I love the film about him "Amadeus" which shows his precocious brilliance. There is so much of his music that, when I hear it, I think that it is the best piece of music I have ever heard.

Conclusion

There are many more songs about the night but I hope you have enjoyed this eclectic playlist.

Marvelous playlist. Each one bringing back such fond memories. And I couldn't agree more about "Amadeus".

  • I have no idea how I missed this and I'm so sorry for that. As always, I don't know any of the songs or the singers/bands here 😅

Bob Seger will forever be a talented singer, story teller and performer. Nicely done.
