A look back at some of my favorite songs by them

If this band rings a bell, you may remember them once again from one of my very first articles. As a quick refresher; "Asking Alexandria" is a British rock band from York, North Yorkshire. Officially formed in 2006 by Ben Bruce, they're still active and running strong to this day. Lead signer Danny Worsnop is arguably their most recognizable member. I have no idea what their name means though sadly and from what I've researched no one really does either. So, sorry if you were wondering if I would explain why they're named Asking Alexandria.

Now, here is your warning. Listen up! Especially since I'll be submitting this article to a challenge literally titled, "teenage angst". Be ready for some explicit language to say the least. Also enjoy my very first non-pg article, well at least when it comes to language. I have yet to swear or curse of any kind in any previous article. Read at your own discretion.

Also potential trigger warning? It's for their song "Not The American Average". You'll see

POISON

Once again no, I do not mean the "bell biv devoe" song of the same name. Even though I love that song, wrong song. Way more violent than that version. Anyways, back to Asking Alexandria. Their song "Poison", the chorus is literally just:

"I wanna watch the whole world

I wanna watch the whole world burn down, burn down

I wanna watch the world burn

I wanna watch the whole world burn down, burn down"

That chorus alone should justify that inclusion. I'm not going to lie though, if ever I was a professional wrestler this song would definitely be my song. Think of when CM Punk's Entrance was still Killswitch Engage. Maybe that's a good indicator of angst, if you think CM Punk would enter using that song then it's the perfect level of angst.

NOT THE AMERICAN AVERAGE

Remember when I told you about the explicit language? "Not The American Average" is a song telling the story of a one night stand. While just calling that other person; a whore, a bitch, etc. Just, let me tell you one of the lyrics to the song.

"Your thighs were made for checks to graze"

How romantic, before you just flat out start slut shaming. This song just screams teenage angst and hormones.

Lastly there's the music video, which really is the cherry on top. Filmed in front of a live audience, the music video blends the studio recorded portions with live audio. Honestly pretty creative, but what a wholesome some to use this technique for. Here's the music video, enjoy!

HEY THERE MR. BROOKS

This is literally just an incredibly graphic song about a murder.. Yeah, I know. At this point if you're not used to listening to metal, and can't understand the lyrics during the screams. Then it's probably a good thing. Just don't listen to the lyrics. Speaking of screaming, the last part of the song is literally just screaming, and I don't mean singing screaming I mean like horror movie screaming. It is pretty funny though driving with this song on full blast. I don't think teenage angst gets any better/worse than literal screaming in a song.

DEAR INSANITY

Let me repeat that, the name of this song is literally "Dear Insanity". Don't get me wrong I do enjoy this song. But here's the line that earned this song a place in my article.

"Now you've seen what I've become

Now you've seen what I can do

Now you see what I'm capable of"

If I didn't know any better I'd say this was a line from the song "Animal I have Become" from "Three Days Grace". Or better yet from Skillet's song "Monster. So much edge in just one paragraph.

RESTLESS & RELENTLESS

I wonder what this song will be about, let's take a look. Sorry my sarcasm is through the roof, but I can't help myself. Not when one the lyrics is as shown below.

"I am rock and roll

Livin' the life that you can only dream of

I am rock and roll

at it's fucking finest"

Hey look, my very first F-bomb in my article. I guess this article is officially PG-13. Always back to the song. The rest of the song is pretty much what you'd think; before and after that point. There's a lot of blaming people for ruining the music industry, a lot of violence, and a lot of talk of alcoholism. Of course we can't forget though there's a ton of swearing littered throughout the song.

I think I should let Captain Raymond Holt help me summarize this song with just one sentence.

was supposed to be a gif but the gif wasn't working

A Lesson Never Learned

I'm still confused to if this song is supposed to be happy or angry. It has the usual moaning and groaning, but then lightens up in one of the last few verses.

"Could be the end of the world

I'd still be laid here wasting my own life away"

I know that doesn't sound all that happy, but it's played in a major key so it sounds "happy".

In Conclusion

There are still plenty more songs I could have included; but, that's plenty of examples. Don't get me wrong I really do enjoy Asking Alexandria. They're one of the few bands whose album I actually bought when I was a kid. Their album "Stand Up and Scream" was an immense influence on my taste in music.

Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoyed what you have read today. I have plenty of different articles on many different topics. Feel free to give those other articles a read or two. Also if you'd be so kind, I'd greatly appreciate a heart and if you really feel so inclined tips are always appreciated but by no means required.
