A Day To Remember part 2
More songs to give a listen to
A mixture of my first ADTR article doing so well, and me feeling like I still left a plethora of songs on the table. I decided to write another article, I'm simultaneously surprised because I didn't think there were still so many fans. But I'm also not surprised since their music is incredible. There are moments of pure sulking and a little bit of self pity in post-hardcore, don't get me wrong. But again that is why I find "A Day to Remember" and even bands like "We Came As Romans" so refreshing. They even just get better with time. Why don't we take a look at a few more song together, shall we?
Best of Me
"It's not my fault you can't be happy... I can't believe you got the best of me".
What a perfect pair of lines after leaving a toxic relationship. We've all had garbage relationships, unfortunately. But this a great break up song, simultaneously for when you want to sulk and feel sorry for yourself. But then miraculously a fantastic song when you're done sulking and want to move forward, it's amazing how versatile this song is. I think that's just a testament to how deep their music is. What I also appreciate is this song also isn't trying to say it's bad to sulk, there is a time and place to feel sorry for yourself. Then once you're done it's very important to move on, acknowledge your worth and work on yourself.
Sometimes You're The Hammer, Sometimes You're The Nail
This whole song is absolutely amazing. However; towards the end of the song there is an absolutely beautiful verse you need to hear. Starting off with roughly 20 seconds of pure instrumentals, you need to hear it for yourself. I'm actually having trouble putting it into words, so I'll leave the lyrics I'm referring to below as well as a link to the song.
"I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable, I reserve my right to be afraid.
I make mistakes and I am humbled every step of the way.
I want to be a better person, I wanna know the master plan. Cast your stones, cast your judgement.
You don't make me who I am!"
I can not help myself, I have to sing to this song as loud as I can every time I hear it. Especially that verse I just mentioned.
I'm Made Of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of?
Don't worry. I agree, the title of this song makes absolutely no sense. Oddly that's a trend with a lot of post-hardcore bands. Titles that make ZERO sense, but who cares? I still love this band, even though shocker this is like their 5th song about hating their hometown. Another troupe you see a lot of in post-hardcore bands. Just like how the next song on this list. But as much as I jokingly trash talk the troupe of hating your own home town this is still a great song.
"I'll be there just to watch you fall
So don't push me
I've got nothing to lose"
All Signs Point To Lauderdale
Oh you thought I was joking? No seriously, I this is the chorus and how the song starts off. Also forewarning, 1 use of the F word coming soon. I personally never understood all the hate for your hometown, but to be fair I was born and raised in Las Vegas and I love it here. If you grew up in a small town and absolutely hated it, this would be the perfect song for you.
"I hate this town, it's so washed up
And all my friends don't give a fuck
They'll tell me that it's just bad luck
When will I find where I fit in"
NJ Legion Iced Tea
From even the very first verse, it is pretty much a battle cry. Definitely a highly motivational song when you need it. This song was definitely on my workout playlist back in the day.
"Get up, get out
This is your wake up call
We run this town and you can't fight us all
We keep 'em coming back for more
Don't think you can hold us down
We'll tear this building down
Try to be careful what you say"
My Life For Hire
The message of this song is the first of it's kind from "A Day To Remember" (as far as I'm aware), never let your side of the story be snuffed out or silenced. Speak up and speak out with you chin up high and your chest out, especially if you have been wronged.
"It's too late, too late
You keep trying to resolve the past right now
But I swear I'll be the one
To let the world know what you've done"
I Remember
This song is a rollercoaster of emotions. From humility, to discouragement, to disappointment, and nostalgia. "I Remember" is a story of remembering who you are, where you came from, and where you're going. I can tell this song truly came from the heart.
"I remember playing with no one there.
Ya, I knew if I became successful, it wouldn't change who I am.
I remember the coast of California
I remember truck stops cross the land.
Never kept too many idols, 'cause we were busy being them."
Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoyed what you have read today, feel free to subscribe. I have plenty of different articles on many different topics, if you so choose to check them out. Also if you would be so kind, I would greatly appreciate a heart. Lastly; if you really feel so inclined tips and of course pledges (currently only $2.99 a month) are always appreciated but by no means required.
