Earth Moans
APRIL 11, 2020 BY [email protected] EARTH MOANS I wrote this poem on March 14, 2020. The world has not only been turned upside down, but twisted in so many ways, I feel it is trying to tell us something. Of course, we are not listening or are unable to discern what it is exactly trying to say. We are so busy living our lives that we can’t see what is dying around us. This is a study in contemplation when death comes to visit so unexpectedly, it leaves you breathless and breathing in sobs and stutters.

Time Machines
Can you imagine we are like mini time machines? From the day we were born to now, we have been recording all the events in our life seen through our perspective..and there are millions of us. I've watched clear blue skies turn dingy, I've seen countless sunrises and sunsets and only now do I marvel at the immensity of the sun relative to Earth and how puny it is in relation to other Giant Suns and the universe! I remember seeing my first punch-card that fed into a microprocessor that gave commands to a machine through electric pulses that were defined by o and 1 and caused it to perform tricks. Watched it become giant computers that took up whole floors and buildings that now sit on our desktops or laps. Watched men travel on a metal tube out to space and lived vicariously through their eyes in space. Watched the metal tube evolve into the shuttle and a space station and space telescopes to let us better see the universe. Got closer to our own planets by way of a voyager that left our solar system in search of more knowledge. Watched wars come and go and come again. Watched an empire crumble and greedy men refusing to relinquish power. Watched my children grow and my skin get etched with lines resembling the very face of our world. Watched 2 giant buildings taken down by 2 giant planes and the subsequent awakening of a huge military complex to take down the wrong (just my opinion) perpetrators. Watched countless trees bloom and sadly seen many trees killed and chopped down in the name of progress or just cuz it got in the way somehow. I've watched cars go from almost jalopies to full blown metal monsters eating up resources to fuel their hunger and belching out smoky pollutants all in the chase for power and fame! Watched these same monsters scaled down to efficiency while the thirst is now a craving from an addiction sucking the blood from the very Earth we live on. I've seen the hope in the eyes of those trying to hold the owners of the industrial world to account to preserve what is left. I just read yesterday an article regarding a little frog that is now extinct and may never be seen again. Seems it always starts with the small things. Kinda like when you remember an old friend as you ponder whatever happened to them. I've watched religion evolve or devolve (depending on point view, of course) from a homespun Sunday get together with rip-roaring hoedowns or good ole Sunday socials to MEGA-churches siphoning money from the very people they were meant to serve and is now being raised up in praise while God looks down in wonder at what has been done in His name. I've watched comic books go from a kids dream of the next issue to see what our protagonist will do now into multiverses of multi-millionaires helping us live our imaginations on a big screen. I've watched drive-in theaters disappear into the very mists of time and our 13inch turquoise and beige tv with rabbit ear antennae (and bad reception..lol) turn into a 75inch glamorous window into the world and the very minds of creators of worlds we can never imagine ourselves. I've watched so many books become movies and so many just a drop in the dustbin of history, And all this is recorded in this slush called a brain that can't be downloaded into a computer unless I do it manually, as I am now. We are just time machines recording our lives but if you share with me, I will share with you and drink a toast to wonders you have seen. Thank you!

PERSPECTIVE
PERSPECTIVE: Which side of the mirror are you on? Are you the reflection or what is real? I watched a man on national tv espouse all the virtues of hate, of racism and ignorance. Heard him downplay accomplishments and work of people that came before him. Watched and listened to him calling people names, assigning epithets to people he didn't like or agree with to undermine their credibility and hide his own lack thereof. Listened to him brag on a recorded video of how he can grab women by their most intimate parts and suffer no consequence due to his celebrity status. Watched and listened to him call for the conviction of an opponent based on hearsay more than proof. Watched and listened to this person denigrate every law and yet refuses to accord the same right to any critic of his. And he was elected PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!
