Tales of Bette: On Her Ray-dar (Full Version)
The sequel to... Saturday July 12, 2014 The evening was getting late and the party was starting to die off. A lot fewer of her old friends went to the reunion than she thought would go. There were over 400 people in Public North's graduating class of 2004; maybe 120 showed up to the reunion party that night. She was hoping to see Ozzy, Mark, Tylor, Jenna, Vanessa, Tina, and others. The only close familiar faces she ran into sand spent time with were Katie and Ashleigh. Jenna was on the fence at best about going, she lived over an hour away and didn't want to impose on Bette's family with her; even though the Wheelan family was more than welcoming to her, and always had been.

So Much To Give
7/8/2021 This is an autobiographical journal-like entry. It's been on my mind for a while, so I'm just gonna go with it. COVID-19 Started us on a lockdown in early 2020. I've been working from home since March of 2020. I like working from home. My workplace likes the work I do working from home. They have no intention to bring me back into the office as long as I keep up the good work, even the CEO of the company said so. My work is phone-based, so I talk to a lot of people. I would consider myself an extrovert most of the time. Customer service work is mentally and emotionally TAXING. It is not easy, at the end of most days I am drained and I need things to be quiet for a while. I don't want to talk to people for a while. I don't want to talk about my work. I imagine doctors don't want to keep talking about medical stuff at home or government workers want to talk about their work. Sometimes work is that and while a job can be satisfying, it is not the thing that defines me. It's not my only outlet to the world. Thank God it isn't. I think that would be pretty pathetic if my work was all I was.

The Lemon Dress
My mother will tell you I always had my own taste in fashion. I would wear dance costumes to the library. I would wear plaid vests with mixed print clothes, tights, and sneakers. She always let me dress myself and never tried to stop me. There were one or two times in my teen years where she drew the line and said 'no,' and looking back on it, it was for the best and I am grateful for it. My mother and father have beautiful, classic, timeless taste. As I got older, I learned to adhere to a lot of those classic rules: white shoes belong on brides and babies, your shoes should be darker than your legs, look at yourself before you leave in your outfit and take off one accessory, and it never hurts to look your best. No, they did not invent those rules, but they are great rules to live by.

Bedtime Story
"Tell the story." "Which one?" "You know, Mama. Thee story. My favorite one." "Yes, yes, my love." She took a deep breath and sighed. Her voice took a slightly deeper and ominous tone. "The first merfolk were stolen babies; taken from the unattended decks of ships and shores of the sea by the dolphins who lost their own babies. They took their new young and nursed them until their lungs grew strong, their limbs turned to fins, and their skin and eyes grew immune to the salt."

Tales of Bette: Reunited 2020 Part 2
Continued from Part 1 Mark takes the lead... She's still a great kisser. Mark felt Bette take his hand in both of hers as he kissed her. The breeze kicked up and her hair struck his face; he could smell her shampoo: coconut and honey. She never forgot. Don't wait anymore. He wasn't sure if it was the cool breeze or the soft, innocent way she kissed him, but a chill moved up his spine. Mark pulled back from the kiss and saw her smile and he did too. "You wanna go back inside?"

Tales of Bette: Reunited 2020. Part 1
INCLUDES MAJOR SPOILERS FOR "BETTE ON IT: WEIRD ADOLESCENCE." YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Bette Arrives... Bette and Mark had been talking for months after they got back in contact in June 2020. They texted each other almost daily. They video called each other a couple nights each week. Mark was able to do so more often when his children were with his former wife: every other week. Bette had concerns about Mark having an ex-wife and children, but over the months it became clear: Shannon had been someone he had loved as a friend; she was his partner in raising their children. He told her their romantic love had faded fast in the early part of their marriage and they were both much happier now. He had nothing but kind things to say about her as a friend and mother.

Tales of Bette: Ozzy's Perspective. After the Photo Session
Bette On It: Weird Adolescence. Senior Year 2003-2004. Excerpt... It was Sunday December 21st. Bette and Ozzy were working on their psychology homework together. They weren't in the same class period, but they had the same teacher and the same homework, so it was easy to have an excuse to get together to do the work. The psych homework was done quickly. Bette wore a long skirt that day so if she and Ozzy could have an opportunity to hook up, she'd be able to do so quickly. She also brought her camera with her to get some shots of Ozzy for both photography class and for themselves. She put in a separate roll of film in the camera just for them. She told him to take his guitar and play in a place that felt natural, where he felt his best; he sat on his bed. She told him to keep playing and she would do the rest. He started performing songs from his notebook. She adjusted the blinds and let the natural light come in. It was difficult to work with, but she loved the lines it created on him. The snow outside enhanced the brightness of the sunlight. She gave him a fixed point saying this spot was his audience, if you're going to look, look there. She moved to different points of the room focusing, refocusing, and clicking the camera while he performed for her. She constantly had to adjust the blinds to the changing light, but she didn't care. He was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen and she loved him. She stood in the spot where she told him his fixed-point audience was and she watched him through the camera. He was sexy, passionate, and alive, but something was missing.
