The Zombie Apocalypse Aquarium
“I have an idea on where we can get some additional food sources,” Jared says. He’s been worrying today about our food situation, because the simple reality is we can’t go to the grocery store much longer before the food there will go bad.

The Zombie Apocalypse Light Show
I’ve been soaking my achy body in a hot bath for the last half hour. Jared had it ready for me when I finally got out of the car, which makes me feel guilty for snapping at him, but also grateful that he was so thoughtful. I hear a soft knock on the door.

Death By Chocolate
It’s the second day since the zombie apocalypse started and all Jared can go on about is how much he wants chocolate cake. It probably doesn’t help that it’s his birthday, but you’d think the man would have some priorities about living through a zombie apocalypse. But no, all he can think about is having chocolate cake for his birthday.

The Zombie Apocalypse Barn
The day the zombie apocalypse happened, Jared and I were working on our farm. He was running the tractor over the fields, to make them fallow, while I was going through the seed inventory to figure out what we needed to order. Neither of us were much for watching the news, but I had the radio turned on and was listening to some classical music when the music was interrupted.

I used to be a workaholic
I used to be a workaholic. I’ve been a workaholic for much of my life. Whether it was the coaching business where I attended tons of networking meetings and tried to create content and meet with prospective clients or my writing, which I would do after I got off work, I would push myself hard to always be doing something. I didn’t realize the cost of my workaholic nature until my mid-forties and it has been a steep cost that I’m still paying.

Asking questions and finding answers
I’m an occultist, artist, poet and self-published author. Or rather all of these things are facets of me, part of the identity that I share with the world around me. I’ve been writing since I was a teenager. First it was bad poetry, and then it became short stories and then I started writing books about my magical practice. More recently I started writing fiction again, this time in the form of books.

I never really fit in
I’ve never really fit in. I was always the nerdy kid with his nose stuck in a book reading the stories because I wished I was living those stories. I was the teenager who wore the black trenchcoat before it became infamous to do so, because it was a way to protect myself from all the jocks and preps who decided the geeky outsider needed to be picked on each day. Even as an adult, I find it hard to fit in. Forget small talk. I really don’t know do it all that well. With my conversations, we either go deep or I go home.
