1910 Halley's Comet
Named after astronomer Edmond Halley, Halley's Comet only passes by Earth every 76 years or so. When it buzzed our planet in 1910, it sparked a lot of interest — according to Wired.com, telescope sales skyrocketed as the comet neared. Hotels even offered special deals, so people could gather on top of their roofs to watch the meteor pass.

Kazanskaya Bogomater), was a holy icon of the highest stature within the Russian Orthodox Church, representing the Virgin Mary as the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan, and a palladium of all of Russia, known as the Holy Protectress of Russia.

Derelict Methodist Church, Gary, Indiana
City Methodist Church of Gary, Indiana is arguably the most beautiful example of urban decay in the Rust Belt. The Gothic Revival structure, which stands in ruins after decades of neglect, arson and vandalism, is stunning to behold. The City Methodist Church, latterly known as City United Methodist Church is a disused church in Gary, Indiana. Once the largest Methodist church in the Midwest, it ceased as a place of worship in 1975 after a relatively brief life of just over 50 years.

Rum Orphanage Instanbul Turkey
The orphanage was designed and built in 1898 by Alexandre Vallaury located on the island of Büyükada, near Istanbul, Turkey. Alexandre Vallaury was a famous French-Ottoman architect who designed a number of notable buildings in Istanbul including the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, Pera Palace Hotel, Hidayet Mosque, and the Ottoman Bank. The building was originally designed to be a luxury hotel and casino for Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits was a passenger train company that ran The Orient Express. According to the World Monuments Fund, the company was unable to obtain a permit to operate from Sultan Abdul Hamid II, and the building was sold in 1903.

The Grossinger Hotel
This once luxurious Catskills resort is now a haunting ruin. Before air travel became ubiquitous, Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel was attracting over 150,000 guests per year to its sprawling complex of 35 buildings, a golf course, beauty salon, pool, and even artificial ski slope. The 1972 death of its legendary hostess, Jennie Grossinger, though, coincided with the death of the hotel’s heyday as the rich and famous sought glamour elsewhere.

The Royal Hotel in Birdsville, Australia built in 1883. A true Aussie icon and an authentic outback experience awaiting those who brave the often unpredictable Birdsville track in far western Queensland. It ran as a Hotel for 40 yrs before being converted to the Inland Mission Hospital.Abandoned Royal Hotel in Birdsville Queensland Australia, this old sandstone and brick hotel has suffered from vandals and souvenir hunters.
