The Bittersweet Dance of Words and Silence.
We often place a significant value on language, considering it the primary means of communication. Recently, I found myself contemplating the concept of language and its underlying implications. In my thoughts, I envisioned layers or degrees of language, with the most apparent being our native tongue — English, Spanish, French, etc. Beneath this surface layer lies what I’ll refer to as our “sublanguage”.

How Will You Perceive This?
It probably irritates some when they hear someone [me] say “It’s all a matter of perception”. I can understand that. Because it might seem as diminishing the importance or seriousness of certain matters that bring people real pain and suffering. And we will silently, others not so silently, demand others’ respect for certain situations we consider to be tragic.

I searched where I least wanted to search. In the depths of my mind- in the darkness. There were many unknown faces waiting for me. Then one by one, they began to scream horribly at me, attempting with all their might to scare me. As one face appeared and screamed, another would suddenly appear and take over, then another, and another. All overlapping and all happening rather rapidly. Their screams lingered and intensified. They succeeded, and I was terrified. They wanted precisely that, to bring me suffering and scare me away. Finally, I began to scream back at them. Screams backed by the lost times I could not scream.

What are you trying to “balance”?
[What’s another word for balance?] To seek balance is quite the popular belief, isn’t it? But what exactly are we looking to balance? Is it a single thing or is it a conglomerate of things? And are we talking about day-to-day responsibilities or is it more about the internal world of the mind and the emotions that accompany it? Unless it’s all of it?

Knowledge Is an Expensive Power.
Spinoza believed that increasing our knowledge about the causal structure of the world would not only bring an understanding of the “why” but at the same time this would reduce the power it can have on humans. In other words, we wouldn’t be affected by our circumstances since we would have found the logical explanation behind these and therefore bringing the individual into a state of equanimity.

On Existence.
I received news that my dad had passed away. I thought I was mentally and emotionally prepared since his health was deteriorating more each month. Knowing he was not in great shape, I kept close watch on his state by maintaining daily contact. He was always such a great conversationalist and was always mighty strong in spirit— the sort that lifts you up by just his pleasant tone of voice, because they are genuinely happy to be speaking with you… making you feel valuable and cared about.
