You Are Part of the Problem
I have a few things to say here, and I’m not sorry. This stuff is really bugging me; the cognitive dissonance is strong (and I don’t know why it’s not the same for those of you for whom this applies). Holding such starkly opposing views so strongly should cause cognitive dissonance... and if it doesn’t, there’s some work you need to do. There are a lot more examples than just those listed here, and I’m sorry if I missed yours, but writing all these out is depressing.

Cats and Hats
If you've been paying attention at all, you know that a) Hasbro changed the name of the line to Potato Head - they're not taking away your gendered potatoes, and b) the people who actually own the copyrights to Dr. Seuss books made a choice to stop printing six of the hundred or so books, and six of the more obscure ones at that. Neither decision had anything to do with your rights being taken away, neither had anything at all to do with the new and relatively competent federal government in the United States, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

It's Not About You
Yes, I am well aware of the trend of writing rants about regressive politics and climate change and pandemics, and the other life and death things plaguing (see what I did there?) us all these days. I've certainly written enough of them to be aware. But I'm tired of these topics, and I'm taking a break to write about something rather less dire (though probably related, in a late-stage capitalism, entitled asshattery sort of way).

Brain and Gut
This is not a story about gut health affecting mental health, though I can see where the title might suggest that. No, this is a story about Covid - not actually having it, but simply existing in the world we have lived in for the past elevenish months - and the number it does on your mental health. Now, in fairness, there has been a lot going on in addition to Covid-19 in the past year, especially in the US (I'm in the slightly saner Washington), but none of them caused me to have the almost visceral reaction I had this morning.

Not a Karen
Yeah, I'm not calling them Karens anymore. I know too many decent people named Karen to lump them all together like that, even (gasp!) a Republican or two. The same goes for the term Republican, honestly; just because the GOP as a party has gone off the rails entirely doesn't mean individual people who still identify as Republicans are awful humans.
