Long Live the Coven
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night a candle burned in the window. Allie, Vivian, and Jenna each held a flashlight in their hands, as they walked through the woods of Salem, Massachusetts. Leaves crunched beneath their combat style boots as they briskly walked towards the abandoned family cabin. They had been waiting for weeks for the next full moon to occur; timing was everything. Each of the teenagers carried a backpack with a few family heirlooms and crossed their fingers that the trinkets combined with the lunar power would be enough to successfully pull off their incantation. As direct descendants of three women accused of being witches and burned at the stake, they knew they would have an advantage near the ancient grounds rumored to be the site of what remained of their scattered ashes.

Freeze your Brain
As the summer heat beats down on my back, and sweat rolls profusely down my shirt, I eat my snow cone in hopes that it will regulate my body temperature as I write this story. ICE ICE BABY pops in my head, and I do a little victory dance! I reminisce about the days before the mass production of the tiny machines currently sold in homes, when my only means of indulging in the iced treat would be through attending a carnival or some other commercialized event. Oh, the beauty and convenience of modernization! I am grateful however, that the mass production of products now allows me and others to dabble in things consistently, that we once had to wait for. Every spoonful causes a different memory to resurface, and I am hit with a longing and a nostalgic feeling towards things that once were. Things lost. A petite frame for one. Oh, how I miss overindulging in sweet treats without a single thought towards my waistline. Thank goodness for sugar free syrup nowadays, because just like 90's, my very high metabolism is now also history. Speaking of history, let me tell you a little about why I feel the snow cone deserves the title of " the true summer treat."

The Dark Side of Fire
Prologue : Year 1987 Storm clouds brew in the dimly lit sky of HagerTown, and Miriam can scent the rain before the droplets begin to pore down upon her. She struggles to keep the thick cloth over her face and body, in hopes that she can pull off her male disguise. She knows that female dragons are not to be out alone at night without a male accomplice, but she can't risk anyone else in the village knowing her secret. Not even her own safety could deter her from this journey she's on. This is her last chance to save her boy, her half human boy. She runs at super speed throughout the forest, knowing that she's too close to the human village to dare fly. They would kill her on site. The boy in her arms begins to whine and move about, slipping through her wet fingers. She turns back to grab him and comes face to face with a human woman. "Sir, is this your boy?" she asks. "No, I found him". She gently rubs her talon against his cheek, and she takes off into the night. This moment is bittersweet, she knows she will never see sweet Kai again.

Smile, Say CheeseTop Story - May 2022
Hey Mom! I never told you this before, but I did it. I ate all the cheese you specifically purchased to place on your charcuterie board. You know the one you special ordered straight from Italy? You waited months it seemed, just to try those seven different varieties of aged cheese, and I stole your moment of glory. I didn't intend to eat it all, I just wanted a little nibble of each, and why on earth would they send such small squares of cheese anyways? I mean honestly, if anyone is to blame, it simply must be them for sending such minute sample sizes. Those blocks of cheese, and I use the term "blocks" loosely, were the size of petit fours. I've seen much bigger squares of cheese placed on the ends of traps for house mice or rats. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not making any excuses for my moment of mischief. However, in my defense, I now understand the famous lays motto " betcha can't eat just one". I know this confession is twenty years overdue, but better late than never right? I'm getting way ahead of myself though with this confession , let me start from the beginning.

I'm Always Watching
Most people are afraid of the things that they can't see, but I'm afraid of the things that I can. As a child, I was afraid of the monsters under my bed, or the tiny little noises coming from my closet. I became so paranoid, and my hearing became so enhanced, that even the muffled sounds of my neighbor's car would wake me from a sound sleep. I could hear every drop of rain, trickling slowly down the roof, and it would immediately jump start my anxiety. I would beg my parents to leave a light on, because I believed that bad things were afraid to show themselves. I was wrong.
