Miscarriage: The Unspoken Event
Sitting on the exam table, I stared into the cold and sterile space, waiting for the doctor to come in. The nurse practitioner had already examined me. She confirmed what I already knew. I had miscarried…again. My HCG (pregnancy hormone) was falling, confirmed by a blood test that morning.

Variations of “Not In My Backyard” Reverberate in my Mind
When I was in school for my graduate degree in natural resources, our class was asked to write an essay following the reading of Tragedy of the Commons (Hardin, 1968). It is required reading in most environmental programs.

Are Chemical Sunscreens Banned Where You Are Going?
Recently, we learned that chemical sunscreens are banned in the US Virgin Islands (USVI). We learned this when we registered to take a snorkeling trip on a catamaran to the shores of St. John and Little St. James Islands. We were already on St. Thomas. Top Ten Reasons to Ride Public Transportation When You Travel
A short story... Image by David Mark from PixabayImage by David Mark from Pixabay Image by David Mark from Pixabay It was 1982. I had never flown on an airplane, traveled alone, or been to a foreign country other than Canada. I was eighteen. But in May of ’82, I boarded a plane that flew from Buffalo, New York to Los Angeles, California. Then, I flew from LA to Tokyo, Japan. My father, who had traveled during his time in the USAF, told me not to — under any circumstances — leave the airport. I called my dad and mom when I was on the ground in LA, in the airport. And then, I left the concourse and proceeded to board a bus, blatantly disregarding his advice.

Let’s Cut The Political Crap And Do Something Productive
It’s difficult to watch the national news in the United States these days. Stories are repeated AD NAUSEAM for days in a row. We heard about the Pelosi attack over and over, even when nothing was new. We heard any lead story over and over. Do the news outlets believe we have no comprehension? It must be the case because there is no reason to repeat it over and over and over when nothing is new to report.

The Top Ten Books I Read This Year: 2022
For the last several years, I've set reading goals on Goodreads. It's worked - I kept reading and working up my goal to read thirty books in 2022. I met the goal last week and am ready to share what books I enjoyed reading the most! They are not all novels, but all good reads, nonetheless.
