Let’s Cut The Political Crap And Do Something Productive

We are wasting so much time…time we don’t have.

It’s difficult to watch the national news in the United States these days. Stories are repeated AD NAUSEAM for days in a row. We heard about the Pelosi attack over and over, even when nothing was new. We heard any lead story over and over. Do the news outlets believe we have no comprehension? It must be the case because there is no reason to repeat it over and over and over when nothing is new to report.

Now, as I’m sure you know, files were found in some closet that was President Biden’s after he served as Vice President. They were classified files from his time in the prior office. Just like President Trump had classified files found in his Mar-A-Lago residence, but with a difference. President Biden reported the files right away to the agencies with the need to know. I could go on, but you’ve heard both stories now, over and over.

Still, the reaction “on the hill” is that there’s been a double standard. Maybe so. I’ll be honest here and say that I don’t like EITHER President Trump or President Biden. One is too narcissistic and one is too old to be running our country. This is my opinion. We all have a right to one. So, I’m fine if you disagree with me. And really, national security is of the utmost importance. But, if anyone thinks these men had complete control over their “files,” I think that’s crazy.

Thus, let's just move on. Biden’s files have been secured. The files that Trump was in possession of have been recovered.

Instead of appointing all these special investigators and wasting time and money on finding out how and why these files were left in a closet, let’s do something productive!

There is so much work to do, people! So much work to save our Earth. If we don’t do the work, we will die. The Earth will live on, as it has in the past, but we will not. So, who cares about the files —

    Instead, let’s…

  • put a moratorium on plastic usage nationwide!
  • make an action plan to shore up our aging infrastructure!
  • further the incentivization of alternative fuels!
  • lessen our dependence on other nations for everyday supplies!
  • vet congressmen before they win an election!
  • stop placing blame on “the other guy” and take responsibility for our own problems.
  • stop journalistic brainwashing and sensationalism — on both sides of any issue that you name!
  • reform our educational systems!
  • reform our healthcare systems!
  • work to reduce each and every person’s carbon footprint!
  • teach people how to live sustainably!
  • and, more!

There is a lot of work to be done! So any time wasted on appointing a special this or that is time away from the real issues. I am an educated, middle-class mother, wife, and environmentalist. It is time we start addressing the real issues at hand, not the ones that the drama and power-seeking politicians and sensationalistic journalists cook up for us and shove down our proverbial throats. I’m tired of it! Aren’t you?!

The Earth is dying…every second of every hour of every day! Climate change is real. It’s happening now!

“Our last decade — 2010 to 2019 — was hotter than any other decade in at least the past 1,300 years.” (Source).

In addition, we’ve had record droughts, record wildfires, and record heat. There’s been record flooding in many places. The glaciers are melting at a record pace (Source). The melting glaciers are a “major contributor to sea levels rising.” (Source).

“The responsibility to reverse this worrying trend lies with us. At least 97 percent of actively publishing climate scientists endorse the consensus position that humans are the lead drivers of climate change.” (Source).

The responsibility to reverse this trend lies with EACH OF US. That means YOU and it means ME. It’s our responsibility! OURS! After all, the EARTH is our home, is it not?! Of course, it’s our responsibility!

So when I hear so much nonsense and finger-pointing on the national news, I get irritated. We MUST do better. We simply MUST. Our very survival is dependent on doing better.

This is not a political post, just a post from a middle-of-the-road, middle- aged environmental educator, who cares about our youth and the quality of world we are leaving for them.
