The Vagina and the unwelcome guest (Yeast infection)
Various different types of microorganisms live in the vagina. Some, like Lactobacilli, are more frequently found than others. By lowering the pH of the vagina, these bacteria's acid limits what can survive there and protects against some infections. Additionally, small amounts of candida yeasts are frequently present. These fungi are typically not harmful. While other microorganisms, like Lactobacilli, compete with them for resources and space, the body's immune system controls them. But Candida yeasts can also spread infections under specific circumstances.

Jollof Rice and Small Chops
A lot of Nigerians say, “any gathering without jollof rice is just a meeting”. I personally won’t find it funny if I get to a Nigerian event and there’s no jollof rice (like for real!) and I believe I can say the same for a lot of Nigerians. Although history has shown that jollof rice originated from Republic of Senegal, other west African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Cameroon have adopted it. It’s almost impossible to attend a Nigerian gathering/event that doesn’t have jollof rice on the menu, at least in my twenty-five years on earth I’ve never experienced that. It’s like an abomination, REALLY!

Hope Cultivated
The only surprise that came with 2020 for me was the Covid-19 virus, the season of life I was in had long been on lockdown. As I sat at the park and thought of how stagnant my life had been a refreshing thought popped up in my mind “you’re still standing though”. As refreshing as it was, I was upset it made me feel refreshed. I had been down this road too many times, I wallow in the thoughts of my life’s predicaments, amidst those thoughts comes one with refreshing words that I always recognize, a glimpse of hope is birthed, I cultivate the thought, gather the bits of strength left in me and put it to work as I hope for the best. But again nothing works and I’m back to square one, wallowing. It’s a cycle I thought. So, this time, that refreshing thought wasn’t going to play me again. I refused it.

Home is You and I
Google says home is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household, but that changed for me at the age of 16. I had to leave the people, places and the very things that I called home. Joy filled my heart at the prospect of being able to get a higher education. I packed my bags with things that would remind me of home in hopes to mask the pain my heart was also feeling.
