Are you dark enough? Would you challenge yourself to be darker? Is it something you could embrace? Or would you fear being darker or embracing the darkness inside you? For this particular reason, if you can't embrace the darkness, you're out of your depth.

I have a certain routine that I like to keep, but that hinges on me waking up within a certain timeframe. I like to be up and getting ready between 7:30 A.M. and 8:30 A.M. Sometimes, I don’t wake up within that timeframe and it winds up being afterwards, but it isn’t as if I can’t still do many of the things that I want to do throughout the day. But everything gets pushed back, or I often wind up with less time for certain things, etc. I don’t NEED to be up this early and I CAN wake up an hour later, but when I do it too often, my other projects get less time.

The Devil's in the Details
I had it recently pointed out to me by Paul Stewart that I am a very detail-driven writer. It wasn’t an insult; in fact, it was a compliment, as he said that it took my writing to the next level. RMS seems to agree as he made a similar observation when he awarded me with second place in his unofficial August horror challenge for my story “The Dreamwalker’s Battle”.

Le Guin Apprenticeship Journal IV
Nothing could have prepared me for this week. Nothing! It's not so much that I thought Verbal Repetition would be easy (though, of course, I did: who doesn't repeat themselves); it's just that I didn't realise my brain would unconsciously challenge itself to pack all the lessons of the last four weeks into this exercise alongside the repetition. Apparently now my subconscious is treating this project as a journey of compounding perfection, where each piece MUST be better than the last. What the punishment will be for failure, I dread to think... probably writer's block.
