Breaking The Rules
Author’s Note: These prompts are my attempt at working on writing fiction. I may not always follow the cards exactly, but it is me writing fiction. I am a woman in long term recovery and have been working on myself since 1978. I grew up in a family steeped in alcoholism. This story is fiction combined with some truth.

“You Look So Put together” Is Giving Me Too Much Credit
Today someone told me, “You look so put together. Like you’re so perfect in everything.” And I was like, oh no. I’m not. I have my flaws. I’m nosy as hell. I overthink things that probably don’t need that much thought. I get irritated over stupid stuff. Sometimes I take things personally and then realize later it had nothing to do with me. I can be stubborn. I can be impatient. I’ve made bad decisions knowing they were bad decisions.

Talking Hearts Cards
Author's Note: John picked the cards and I answered them first. He got a copy of my answers prior to him answering the prompts. When I went in to get the paper from him with his answers he said, "You didn't expect me to write out all the answers did you, when I looked at both sides and nothing was written. So, I sat down and wrote his answers for him. I suppose it is meant to be that way by the authors of the cards.

The Paper Bag Chronicles: How My Driveway Became a Museum Exhibit for Britain's Declining Competence. Top Story - September 2026.
Take a moment to gaze at my chosen image from 'Unsplash,' and what does it tell you? No, it isn't that the toilet rolls are a grim portent of another incoming COVID outbreak, and it's not that he's about to break out into an enthusiastic attempt at juggling either; that carton of eggs at the very top wouldn't stand a chance of making it home. No.

Voiceless. Top Story - September 2026.
This little blue pikmin has a mouth to speak but nothing to say. He is going nonverbal, perhaps able to speak but refusing to do so. Instead, he stands slumped and passive in his blurry videogame world, waiting to be commanded into action.

Kidney Stones
An infinite cobblestone generator is something you make in Minecraft. I’m reminded of the automatic bridge on the original “Tutorial World” for the Xbox 360, while kidney stones are a serious medical condition caused by the build up of minerals into clumps, which the body then tries to push out. I have heard it is extremely painful. Drawing an analogy between the two is a clever play on the theme of…uh, “stone production” and a mash-up of Minecraft’s youthful whimsy with the hard realities of adulthood.
