Musings, Jokes, and Dreams to Wake Me Up 5
I have a certain routine that I like to keep, but that hinges on me waking up within a certain timeframe. I like to be up and getting ready between 7:30 A.M. and 8:30 A.M. Sometimes, I don’t wake up within that timeframe and it winds up being afterwards, but it isn’t as if I can’t still do many of the things that I want to do throughout the day. But everything gets pushed back, or I often wind up with less time for certain things, etc. I don’t NEED to be up this early and I CAN wake up an hour later, but when I do it too often, my other projects get less time.

Talking Hearts Cards
Author's Note: I picked the cards and answered them first. John got a copy of my answers prior to him answering the prompts. Next, I sat down with him to share a few of my answers with him and wrote down his answers. Some of the answers brought humor, and laughter and a couple answers brought conflict. I wonder if the authors of the cards expected the answers to be shared with anyone who wishes to read them?

Stealing From One Storyline to Tell Another Story
Steal From Yourself challenge - Prompt: Return to something you wrote years ago and use one idea, image, character, or line from it to create something entirely new. It's time to dig through your old writing and steal something. Find a story you abandoned, a poem you haven't read in years, a half-finished draft, or something your younger self was very proud of. Somewhere in there is a line, character, image, idea, or tiny detail worth taking. For this challenge, take that one thing and give it another life. Drop an old character into a completely different story. Turn a forgotten line into a poem. Take the best idea from your worst draft and finally do something with it. Don't rewrite the old piece. Rob it. Then use what you stole to make something entirely new.

The Night of the Moving Deer Head
It was sometime in December, I was five years old and deer hunting rifle season was well underway. One day during that particular deer hunting season, my uncle or my older cousin (my aunt and uncle’s son) had successfully gotten a buck. They shot the buck in a secluded field not far from their home.

The Quiet Hour
I. There are nights when the house seems to breathe. Not loudly- just a slow, patient exhale that stirs the curtains and makes the floorboards remember footsteps that are not mine. I tell myself it is nothing. Just old wood. Old wind. Old fears that never learned how to die properly. But tonight feels different.
