2024
Compelling. On Vocal, in 2024, I will be compelling. I hope my words ring through hollers and climb mountains. I hope they swim to the deepest depths and fish for discoveries only our minds can see. I want them to delight in tastes that bring light to their tongues. My words, I want them to bring peace in the wake of chaos. Each sound I spy blind to the darkness of the night, I hope they bring them sight. And each melodic phrase I pen, I hope they sing in the silence. I hope my words are spoken in the wind and color the leaves that fall from my mind’s tree. I want them to blossom where flowers shouldn’t bloom. I implore them to walk you back in time and throttle you into the future, all while keeping you firmly planted in the present. Their aim is to create new worlds, worlds that intertwine and weave themselves with the one in which we exist. Through Vocal I look to widen my writing’s reach and be a prominent member of its community.

A Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing: The Journey So Far
Writers are expendable. If you don't believe me, ask the companies that I, and many others like me, worked for in 2020. I thought I achieved success by finding work in my industry even before I left school, yet when issues arose during the Covid-19 pandemic, small time writers and editors like myself were given the boot from marketing and social media teams without a second thought.

On This Day I Swear It, In 2024 I Shall Publish The Great American Pirate Themed Novel
I know that many will mock me when they read my vow today that someday I will be spoken of in the same breathe with the great American authors of pirate literature. Of all the literary sub genres the pirate novel is arguably one of the most prestigious and acclaimed. Completion and publication of a pirate focused or even pirate themed novel has been said by many to represent the greatest of literary challenges for any writer, let alone a prickly newcomer like myself. To them I say you don’t know me. You have no idea the skills I possess, the depth of knowledge of pirate culture I have obtained, the encyclopedic bank of pirate phrases, the raw talent, and frankly the ambition I bring to bear. So hear me now, and believe me later, today I vow it, tomorrow or someday later, but definitely in this year of 2024 I plan to write and publish the greatest pirate themed novel of all time. You read that correctly, the greatest (dramatic pause), pirate themed (dramatic pause), novel (dramatic pause), of all time. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

‘‘Whispers of Enchantment: Lily's Journey to Restore Meadowridg’’
In the small village of Meadowridge, nestled between rolling hills and wildflower meadows, there lived an ordinary girl named Lily. What made Lily extraordinary was her peculiar ability to hear the whispers of nature—the wind's secrets, the laughter of leaves, and the songs of the babbling brook. One day, as Lily wandered through the meadows, she stumbled upon a mysterious, shimmering stone. Its ethereal glow captivated her, and when she touched it, a surge of energy coursed through her veins. Little did Lily know that the stone was a key to unlocking the hidden magic of Meadowridge. As the days passed, Lily's connection with nature deepened. Flowers bloomed in her footsteps, and butterflies danced around her like colorful confetti. Intrigued by these newfound abilities, Lily sought guidance from the wise Elder Willow, an ancient tree that stood at the heart of the village. Elder Willow revealed that the stone Lily found was a fragment of the Heartstone, a powerful artifact that could channel the purest essence of nature. However, the Heartstone had shattered centuries ago, scattering its fragments across Meadowridge. To restore the balance of nature, Lily had to embark on a quest to reunite the pieces. Armed with determination and guided by the whispers of nature, Lily set off on her adventure. Each fragment she discovered brought a surge of magic, and with it, Meadowridge transformed into a realm of enchantment. Trees grew taller, their branches forming intricate patterns in the sky, and animals exhibited a newfound sense of harmony. However, not everyone in Meadowridge welcomed the magical changes. The village had skeptics who feared the unknown and distrusted the extraordinary. Among them was Gruff, the grumpy blacksmith, who believed that tampering with magic would bring only trouble. As Lily continued her quest, Gruff's skepticism grew into resentment. Convinced that Lily's actions were endangering the village, he rallied a group of like-minded villagers to oppose her. The once-close-knit community found itself divided between those who embraced the magic and those who feared it. Lily, caught in the middle of this conflict, faced moments of doubt and despair. Yet, she remained steadfast, guided by the whispers of nature and the belief that the magic she harnessed could bring about positive change. The climax of the story unfolded during the Festival of the Blooming Moon, an annual celebration where Meadowridge came together to honor nature's wonders. As Lily presented the reassembled Heartstone, a surge of magic illuminated the night sky, creating a breathtaking display of colors and sparkles. In that moment, the skeptics witnessed the beauty that Lily had unlocked, and their hearts softened. Gruff, who had been the staunchest opponent, found himself moved by the enchantment. He approached Lily, expressing regret for his earlier actions and acknowledging the transformative power of nature. The divided village began to heal as Lily's magic brought unity. The once-skeptical villagers joined hands with the nature enthusiasts, realizing that embracing the extraordinary could lead to a richer, more vibrant community. Meadowridge, now a haven of magic and harmony, became a beacon of inspiration for neighboring villages. Lily's journey not only restored the Heartstone but also opened the villagers' hearts to the beauty that exists beyond the ordinary. And so, the whispers of nature continued, echoing through Meadowridge as a reminder that magic, when embraced with an open heart, has the power to transform even the most ordinary of places into extraordinary realms of wonder and joy.
