There is no better way to honor the upcoming spooky season than with a visit to a location prepared to celebrate ghosts and goblins. Even though Halloween has a complicated and lengthy history, it is widely observed in lively and exciting ways. Here are some of the top locations in the world to enjoy Halloween this year.

Ireland

Halloween's roots can be found in Celtic festivals like Samhain. Little has changed from its inception, when people would dress up to stave off ghosts. It comes as no surprise that the Irish have a fantastic Halloween. Fortune-telling, bonfires, fruitcake consumption, and, of course, dressing up are all common traditions. The Banks of Foyle Halloween Carnival, the largest Halloween celebration in Europe, is held in Derry City, Ireland. Haunted houses, ghost tours, parades, horror story telling, and much more are available here. There are also pumpkin carving competitions during the Spirits of Meath festival in Meath, which is more laid back.

Mexico

In Oaxaca, the celebrations around the Day of the Dead are quite important. It's not a horror show, even though it is a festival for the dead. The celebration is held in memory of those who have transitioned from this life to the next and serves to keep their spirit alive today. Families create elaborate altars at home to further honor their deceased loved ones during the two-day event, which involves decorating the graves of the deceased. As parades and parties take place all across San Miguel de Allende, visitors can join the celebrations, which continue through November 2.

Hong Kong

The Halloween Capital of Asia is Hong Kong. The city has genuinely embraced Halloween and all of its associated festivities. Theme parks like Disneyland and Ocean Park are rife with festive costume parties, food, and drink-filled special events (like the annual Halloween Bash). Visit the Yue Lan Festival, a more traditional festival where people give gifts to the dead, as well as the Lan Kwai Fong Halloween Street Party.

Transylvania, Romania

The residence of Count Dracula, the most well-known vampire in the world, is the ideal location to celebrate Halloween. Join the throngs of visitors who swarm to Transylvania to celebrate Halloween in the shadow of Bran Castle (the real Dracula's Castle) if you're searching for a truly terrifying Halloween. Even a Halloween celebration, complete with a party and open bar, is held in the castle every year.

New Orleans

New Orleans, one of the most haunted cities in America, has plenty of eerie places. Yes, its Mardi Gras festivities are unmatched, but its Halloween celebrations aren't half bad either. The city is the ideal Halloween trip because of its strong ties to the occult and love of quirky costumes. Throughout the season, there are numerous celebrations and events to attend, such as the renowned Vampire Ball, the Voodoo Music Festival, and the Halloween Spooktacular Family concert. The parades on Bourbon Street are not to be missed. Additionally, you can go on a ghost tour of the old French Quarter.

Salem, Massachusetts

It's nearly impossible to separate Halloween and Salem. Beginning in 1692, the Salem Witch Trials took place in the coastal Massachusetts town and resulted in the hanging of 19 men and women. It's a place where the spirits are strong, yet around Halloween, it's also a place where people have fun. The seaside community holds lavish Halloween celebrations throughout the entire month of October, beginning with a huge parade and concluding with fireworks on Halloween night. Additionally, there are numerous carnival rides, ghost tours, and other family-friendly activities. In addition, guests can take part in the carnival of the dead and go to the renowned Witches' Halloween Ball.

London, England

Although there are many scary castles and haunted places in England, London is the best spot to be on Halloween. London puts on a ton of celebrations throughout the city for the occasion thanks to its many gloomy dungeons, historic structures, and spooky sights. The Tower of London is the greatest location to fully immerse yourself in the area's many ghost stories. Several noteworthy people were executed here, including Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII and the former Queen of England, who is rumored to still be seen wandering the corridors.

Italy

All Saints Day and the subsequent All Souls Day are significant holidays in Italy. While regional celebrations differ, one of the most well-known is in Venice. Although it might seem like an unlikely place to spend Halloween, its residents dress up for the occasion and travel to the numerous ghost islands nearby. Additionally, numerous extravagant masquerade balls are frequently held in honor of the event. Corinaldo, which describes itself as the Italian Capital of Halloween, is another option. This village hosts an annual fire festival on the evening of October 31 and is full with creepy attractions.

Prague, the Czech Republic

One of Europe's most magnificent Gothic cities is Prague. It also has a ghostly and slightly macabre allure because to its beautiful medieval buildings and winding alleyways. For those who enjoy Halloween's scarier side, the town is rife with spooky local stories, haunting cemeteries, and even a Torture Museum. Even though Halloween isn't often a huge deal in the Czech Republic, there are always fun ways to celebrate in Prague.

Belgium

In Belgium, Halloween has quickly gained in popularity. Brussels goes above and beyond the typical town celebrations, which include eerie decorations and costume parties. Children in costumes can swim about in a city swimming pool that has been painted red to resemble a "bloodbath." Numerous ghost excursions and gatherings are also available. Another well-liked location is Ostend, which is also known as "Belgium's Halloween city" since it regularly holds a variety of spooky activities, scary costume parades, and other events.

Amsterdam

On Halloween, Amsterdam has something for everyone, whether they want a night of family-friendly entertainment or something more explicit (like the fetish spectacular at Obscene Halloween). Along with themed events in cafés, restaurants, clubs, and even museums, the city throws some of the most inventive costume parties. Visitors can also take part in ghost tours, musical performances, or all-night horror movie marathons. A visit to the storied Monster Ball or the Amsterdam Halloween Festival is recommended if you can.
