Climate and weather conditions are of utmost importance during the trek or tour. It is crucial to gather comprehensive information about the weather conditions at Everest Base Camp. The weather along the path to Base Camp is constantly shifting and difficult to anticipate. The journey is filled with thrilling adventures, commencing at Lukla airport and concluding at the majestic Everest Base Camp.

The entire year in the Everest Base Camp areas can be divided into four seasons:

Weather in Spring

Spring marks the end of the harsh winter and the start of a cooler summer. In the area surrounding Everest Base Camp, May usually brings delightful weather conditions, gradually transitioning as the monsoon season approaches. In early March, the temperatures begin to drop from 15°C to -10°C. Throughout this season, the wind speeds decrease to approximately 14 km/h.

The sunshine hour is 7 hours and precipitation is 15 mm per month. The trek and tour adventure is highly recommended during this time due to the pleasant weather conditions, moderate temperatures, and improved visibility.

Weather in Summer

In Nepal, the monsoon season typically occurs between June and August and sometimes even extends until mid-September. This period brings heavy rainfall, which results in the lower parts of the trail becoming wet, muddy, and slippery. Additionally, the continuous downpour often leads to the mountains being covered in clouds, fog, or mist.

Due to these conditions, most travelers do not recommend any kind of trek or tour during the monsoon season. Starting in early June, temperatures gradually rise from 17°C to 5°C. During this time, the precipitation level at the Everest Base Camp also increases significantly, reaching up to 190 mm. The average daily sunshine duration is around 5 hours, and the wind speed tends to pick up, reaching up to 16 km/hr.

Weather in Autumn

During the autumn season in Nepal, the popular hiking season begins. You can expect to encounter a large number of people on the Everest Base Camp trail. These months are known for being the driest in Nepal. The weather conditions are ideal, with temperatures not too cold at higher elevations and not too hot at lower elevations. The average temperature during this time can reach up to 15°C.

The winter season in the Everest Base Camp area brings dry weather. While the lower elevations offer pleasant temperatures, higher elevations experience heavy snowfall. Peak/ Best Season for Everest Adventure

The best time to do trekking and tours in the Everest region is during spring and autumn which we have described below:

Spring (February – May)

The spring months are the ideal time to trek or take a heli tour to Everest Base Camp, rather than the peak of summer. Although there may be some snow showers towards the end of winter, the weather is generally stable and dry. During this period, the routes are bustling with activity as most Everest summits occur. You can anticipate encountering numerous climbers, summiteers, and their support teams along the way! Moreover, the region is at its liveliest in the spring, with stunning rhododendrons blooming along many of the trails.

Autumn (September – October)

During this popular trekking season, prepare yourself for sunny days perfect for enjoying the breathtaking panoramas and stunning sights of the majestic mountains in the area. Despite the cool temperatures, the beauty of the surroundings makes it a rewarding experience. Be sure to pack appropriately to be prepared for any unexpected snowstorms. Another advantage of trekking at this time is the opportunity to explore hidden trails that offer equally stunning views without the crowds.
