The Safest Place I Never Lived I always saw the mountain before I saw the hotel. That was how I knew I was nearly safe. The Leap rose above the bush about twenty kilometres north of Mackay, enormous and smoky in the distance. Bare rock pushed through the trees near the top, while lantana, scrub and small shrubs crowded around its base. From the school bus window, it looked far too large to belong beside an ordinary road and an ordinary little pub.

Bruny Island Adventure. Honorable Mention in Twenty-Four Hours Challenge.
Bruny Island is one of those little gems that you only know about if you go looking for it. To get here, you fly into Hobart Airport, probably via Sydney or Brisbane if you're not coming from the Mainland (or North Island, as the locals call it). The next step is to hire a car, drive about an hour to the Bruny Island Ferry, and spend about 20-30 minutes on said Ferry.
