Brazil is a country with cultural diversity and natural beauty. The cities most known by foreign visitors are Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, but through this blog, I intend to show other enchanting destinations.

As is the case of the city of Porto Seguro, which represents Brazil very well. National and Natural Heritage of Humanity, Porto Seguro has its natural, cultural and architectural riches. The city is located in the southern state of Bahia, in the northeast region of Brazil, with a population of over 150 thousand inhabitants. The name Porto Seguro refers to "safe harbor" in English because it was the first region where Portuguese navigators set foot in Brazil for the first time in the 1500s. To understand this immense country, everyone should know Porto Seguro.

You can find flights in the main capitals of the country. The city has an international airport located two kilometers from the city center and a few meters from the bus station. The flight time, for example, without a stopover from São Paulo to Porto Seguro lasts approximately 2 hours.

Porto Seguro has a lot of infrastructure. There are travel agencies in the city that offer tour services and a support network with buses, tour guides, vans, cars, partnerships between hotels and inns.

If you prefer to create your own itinerary, get to know the main tourist attractions. Visit:

Historic City of Porto Seguro

There are signs at all attractions in the city. Knowing the historical monuments, you can understand how the old houses were in the period of colonization of Brazil by the Portuguese, learn a little about their customs and the history of the indigenous inhabitants of the region.

In the Historic Center, there is a village of 48 houses that were not destroyed by time, two churches, a historic museum, the lighthouse, the ruins of the former seminarians' school, and the landmark of the discovery brought by the Portuguese in 1503.

The former City Hall and Jail, currently operates a museum where the rooms are preserved with the original structure. There is also a map of the region hundreds of years ago that shows a division of indigenous villages. In addition, one of the paintings, for example, is the representation of caravels arriving in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century (1500).

In the center of the photo is the landmark of discovery. During the Portuguese maritime expansion, many were its colonies.

The Porto Seguro lighthouse was inaugurated on July 26, 1907. At that time, the lighthouse was built from iron and had a staircase on the outside. In 1947, it was replaced by the monument that stands today. Its location guarantees one of the best views in the city.

Take the opportunity to try the typical foods of the region, such as Acarajé. I will write more about the typical foods of Porto Seguro and Bahia in another publication.
