gender roles
A look at the evolution of gender roles, from Leave It to Beaver, paternity leave, female breadwinners and more.
To all the people I hate(d)
A few weeks ago I was going to take part in a documentary about women´s rage. For the documentary I had to record a personal interview where I was asked how I was raised regarding my rage: was I taught to acknowledge and express it or to ignore it and suppress it. That part was no problem. In fact, it was fun because I don’t have much of a filter and I learnt more about how I view women’s rage through my answers.
Clementine LipsPublished 4 years ago in VivaResilience and why women are so great at it
At some point in our lives we have all been faced with tricky situations that require a hard decision or choice to be made. You have to act fast otherwise you risk the chance that everything could fall apart. This is where we have to use our whole being or as much of it as we can to get through it and our resilience is a key component to the makeup of our being.
George FaircloughPublished 4 years ago in VivaMasculine v. Feminine
We are in the dawning of the feminine revolution. Anyone who doesn't realize that by now has been hermitting since approximately 2011 and should be given wide birth for the amount of crazy they are undoubtedly holding in.
Kelsey GlassPublished 4 years ago in VivaIts My Opinion That .........
My Unpopular opinion. Well, here is my grumpy groan at the world and men. Right we females spend our days either at work or at home totally overworked. More overworked being a housewife than that of a paid job I think that you will agree. So we plan our day rush around. We do the school runs, dog walks, shopping, washing, ironing, cooking, and much more. It's after-dinner dishes, or as we say in Ashton In Makerfield Tea dishes are washed, and kitchen cleaned, we put the kettle on, nip up to loo, fast wee. Then feet up for the soaps, omg bliss, the weight is off our feet, peacetime. Or maybe not. Why: well, you see, in this men's world where men are to be obeyed and smothered in love, Soaps dont count as anything at all. So the big manly sports bosses out there somewhere, decide Ok we will alter a few programs and upset the women; why does he do it? Because he can. Then women all go on Facebook, angrily calling sports and men. It is so annoying to wait all day for our Emmerdale Farm, East Enders, and Coronation Street only to sit down with the tv remote and see the ultimate insult to the female population. FootBall, yes, Football. Why oh why of all the listed programs on tv 24/7 do they have to take off and disrupt the soaps? Where all of us women wicked to men in a previous life or something? No, the answer is Simples. Most men are pig-ignorant. Please note I said ”most ” because not all men are ignorant when it comes to women’s viewing times. Just the FootBall maniacs. Why in this day and age can there not be a 24/7 sporting channel just for men, so that if a match needs covering all they have got to do, in the production offices everywhere is take a sporting event off, and replace it with whatever they would insult the Women’s soaps for? I can not count the times I have watched East Enders and turned tv over at what I thought was the end of the program, only to find out the night after it was not as I thought, it was a double episode and FootBalls on tonight instead. No warning, just do it why dont you. So I miss the extra episode. Without announcement, East Enders was on for an hour tonight. If you think about it, the saying, it goes its a man's world, but quote the song; he is nothing without a woman. I believe we are discounted too many times. It is tricks like this, and they do, rescheduling and replacing women's programs that make us want to get a knife and slash the balls to shreds. No, read this properly I did say The Balls, not his. So my moan, my grudge is with sports channels, sportsmen, and tv producers who are Very anti-women. It may be better to let the tv producers be women only, and better still like my pen name be all Northern Lasses. That would well take the smile off my husband's two faces—also, David, who is my FootBall crazy friend. Yes, I wrote it right; it is not a mistake. The Two faces of Men, Now that would just fit my moan, and my anger at sports v soaps, at ladies viewing times. In my opinion, we work hard and deserve The Tv and the remote from 7 -9 pm. It was so good to get that off my chest. It feels like I have burnt my bra for women. I also think that an extra men's sports telly channel would be so right for them. They could go into work or the pub and argue it all out. Tell the lads on Facebook how sports of racing should have scheduled for 7 pm, but it was canceled for the big match of the day. Maybe they would realize then just what we women go through when they insult us, and our viewing times, by discounting the much-loved soaps. It would cause an uproar maybe, but most men's sports are a load off, No, I won't say it ha ha. Unpopular opinion out of my bag ;)
marie381ukPublished 4 years ago in VivaMan vs. Woman
This age old question has had men and women arguing and fighting for decades. Which sex is stronger, more mentally and emotionally fit? More secure and balanced? Probing for an answer, I began to do some investigating of my own to settle the score and my beliefs.
Kat HerbertPublished 4 years ago in VivaIWD: A plea to stop the female stereotyping
This is a rant, and a plea, and an angry stamp up and down kind of protest against the continual barrage of crappy female stereotyping we, and our children, are exposed to in a million ways every day.
Carole GroombridgePublished 4 years ago in VivaPart 2: People Need To Start Taking Johnny Depp's Allegations Against Amber Heard Seriously
If you’ve been following the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard drama since it started back in 2016, you might have noticed the mass of conflicting stories that have been circulating. It really has become a he said/she said situation and quite frankly, it isn’t looking good for Heard. Now if you’re sitting there thinking “wait, what happened?” That’s why I’m here cause apparently, news outlets just don’t seem to care when it’s a man who is abused.
Female? Over 30? Unmarried?...Problem?
It's funny how the beliefs and values of our previous generations still make themselves present in the modern world where the world is your oyster and information is easily accessible at your fingertips. I mean, computers in your pocket? Who would've guessed this could be possible back in the 80's! Anyone can educate themselves about anything they want at any point in time now. Still, the idea of being a single woman over the age of 30 is looked at as a bit of a shame and there are so many sympathetic onlookers willing to give you a helping hand in finding you a mate...you poor thing, you!
Man vs Woman
I often think that I should have been a man. I’m smarter than most men. More capable than most men. I’m even physically stronger than some men!
Diana MurrayPublished 4 years ago in VivaWhy Do Women Have to Carry the Burden of Contraception?
Since as early as 1600 BC women have been experimenting and cursed with the burden of contraception, and all of the dangerous physical and mental side affects that come with it. In the Ancient World women would go to extreme lengths to avoid pregnancy, including methods using stones, sodium carbonate, honey and a flower known as ‘Queen Anne’s Lace’ (which is still used as a herbal contraceptive method today in India). Since the rise of contraception in Britain in the 19th century, millions of women have faced side effects causing heart attacks, stroke, blood clots, and liver tumours due to hormonal contraceptives.

Angry Woman
They told you that you weren’t beautiful and that made you angry. Then they had the nerve to call you manly and that made you angrier. Next, as if that weren’t enough, they chastised you for being angry, berating you with appellations such as attitudinal and bitter, and that sent you into a rage. It was a rage that you have every right to be in, because you are, essentially, a victim who has been disrespected in every way. But, while before mentioned folks might be causing you quite the angst, quite the annoyance and are factors you could certainly do without, in all totality, they are actually correct.
Robert BurtonPublished 4 years ago in Viva Cisgender Women Are Allowed to Not Want Children
As a journalist, I realize that everything has nuance. Nothing can be understood from just one single perspective. This leads me to my potentially controversial opinion that while having children is a gift, it is also a burden that many of us do not want to have. And women are tired of being shamed for knowing ourselves well enough to understand what types of lives we want to lead.
