The Gateway of India, Mumbai

The Gateway of India is a monument in Mumbai, India. Built during the British Raj in 1924 to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder, it became the starting point of the journey to Pakistan during India's Partition in 1947.

Standing tall on a 26-foot pedestal, The Statue of Unity is one of Gujarat's most iconic landmarks. Located on Sadhu Bet island on Narmada riverbed near Sardar Sarovar Dam, this colossal statue was built as a tribute to Indian independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who played an instrumental role in consolidating and uniting the 565 princely states into what would later become known as the Republic of India.

Taj Mahal, Agra

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began around 1632 and the white marble structure was completed in 1653. The Taj Mahal has become one of the most recognizable structures on Earth.

Humayun's Tomb, Delhi

Humayun's Tomb is a Mughal-era monument in Delhi, India. It was the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent and it influenced later generations of Mughal architecture. The earliest parts of the tomb were built by Humayun's widow Hamida Banu Begum in 1565. Later, Shah Jahan raised its plinth to its present height, and further expanded it. It is one of five World Heritage Sites in Delhi.

The structure features a large central dome with two minarets at a right angle on either side that project from the facade and a stone screen between them. The main entrance faces east towards an artificial river made by Shah Jahan.

Qutub Minar, Delhi

Qutub Minar is an ancient structure in the Indian city of Delhi. It was built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak (a Turkic slave) in 1193 to serve as a minaret for the nearby Quwwat al-Islam mosque. It is one of the earliest and most prominent examples of Indo-Islamic architecture, with its red sandstone facade decorated with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur'an. The Quwwat al-Islam mosque has since been converted into a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, but Qutub Minar remains an important monument in South Asia and a symbol for India's Islamic past.

The Great Stupa at Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh

The Great Stupa at Sanchi is a Buddhist structure that has been standing for over 2000 years. It's the oldest stone structure in India and one of the most important buildings in all of Asia. The stupa was originally built by Ashoka, an Indian emperor who converted to Buddhism after witnessing the carnage created by war, and it once stood as tall as today's Statue of Liberty. However, over time it has shrunk in size as it was quarried for its stones and bricks to be used in other construction projects.

Konark Sun Temple, Odisha

Konark Sun Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Sun God Surya, located in Odisha. The temple is among the largest temples in India and was built by King Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga dynasty. It was originally named Kona-Rekha and Kona Rekh. However, later this name gradually changed into Konark. The temple lies near the sea shore at Dhamrai village about 16 km from Puri, near sandstone cliffs called Marakata.

The temple complex consists of a main shrine (the vimana) flanked by two enclosed halls (navaranga), and four entrance gateways or gopuras.

Ajanta Caves, Maharashtra

The Ajanta Caves are a series of 29 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE. The caves were hidden in an isolated location near a major trade route, protecting them from religious persecution and vandalism. These caves would have been used as prayer halls and monasteries with living quarters for monks outside the sculpted rooms. The caves are named after the nearby village, Ajanta. They are considered one of the most significant ancient Indian art treasures and a jewel on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

Rani-ki-Vav, Gujarat

Rani-ki-Vav is a stepwell situated in Gujarat and is one of the most beautiful places to visit. It was built in the 11th century, but has been renovated and repaired many times since then. The vav (well) provides access to a sunken water reservoir for collecting rainwater. The queen's bath is located on the left side of the well. This place offers some stunning views that will take your breath away.

Chand Baori, Rajasthan

Chand Baori is a step well located in Rajasthan, India that was built around 800 AD. It is one of the deepest and largest step wells in the world. The structure is made up of 3600 narrow steps that descend approximately 100 meters (328 ft) to reach the bottom which holds an incredible 3 million liters of water! The step well was used as a gathering place for people from all over because it served as a reliable source for water in this area.

The Lotus Temple, also known as the Bah�'� House of Worship, is a Bahá'í House of Worship in New Delhi, India. Notable for its flowerlike shape, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and has won numerous architectural awards. It can accommodate 2,500 people. Millions visit every year from all over the world.
