WrestleMania: Too Big for one Night

Just a few days away from the biggest event in sports-entertainment history, WrestleMania 39. Both nights are stacked with great matches including Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. The Usos for the Undisputed Tag Team Championships.

I am highlighting the top five matches of WrestleMania 37 night two. Here we go.

Honorable Mention: The Fiend vs. Randy Orton

This match hurts my heart still to this day. After their disastrous match at WrestleMania 33, I thought for sure WWE would book The Fiend to get his comeuppance against his longtime rival. Unfortunately, due to numerous reasons, Bray shockingly lost the match.

5. Big E vs. Apollo Crews: Nigerian Drum Fight (Intercontinental Championship)

Both champion and challenger started in a kendo stick fight with both superstars looking to gain the advantage. Apollo Crews looked to crush Big E with steel stairs and re-injure the champion. Thankfully, E rolled out of the way and beat the hell out of his challenger.

The New Day member was minutes away from victory after hitting The Big Ending until Commander Azeez interfered costing the champion the title. Crews would lay down and get the disdainful pinfall and win the Intercontinental Championship.

4. Matt Riddle vs. Sheamus: (United States Championship)

Man o man, this was a freaking war as both warriors beat the living hell out of each other. This was as smash mouth in your face, nasty and gritty fights over the prestigious title. Sheamus is a freaking pro as he saved Riddle from potentially ending his career early, after an avalanche Irish curse backbreaker but slipped. Sheamus readjusted and hit the powerful maneuver for a long near-fall.

Matt Riddle was looking to gain momentum and successfully retain his title but, Sheamus had other plans. A missed high-flying attack allowed Sheamus to hit a massive Brogue Kick for the victory.

3. Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka: (Raw Women’s Championship

I forgot how physical this match was, and how much chemistry both superstars had against each other. Rhea Ripley played the overconfident challenger delivering blow-after-blow silencing Asuka. Their contest started high-octane with several near-falls but, quickly changed to a more slow and methodical attack from Ripley.

Asuka would fight back with a series of hip attacks and rapid-fire strikes at her challenger. Asuka hit a thunderous DDT off the ring apron which looked nasty. Ripley nearly locked in the submission but Asuka reversed into an armbar. Both superstars went back-and-forth hitting everything in their arsenal but, Ripley hit the Riptide to win her first Raw Women’s Championship.

2. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

I swear no matter what character Sami Zayn tries to portray he always hits a home run. Whether it be the gutsy babyface, the Honorary Uce, or even the delusional conspiracy theorist. Then all you have to add in is his real-life best friend and now rival Kevin Owens and you have the recipe for success. Need I say anything else?

Both friends and rivals across the ring from each other on the Grandest Stage of Them All is a testament to both superstars. Once independent wrestlers now cornerstones of the WWE getting the spotlight they truly deserve. Go back and watch this match, it was incredible.

1. Roman Reigns vs. Edge vs. Daniel Bryan: (Universal Championship)

A++ Match. There were so many elements to this masterpiece. At first, you have all three main-event superstars battling for the World heavyweight championship that they were all stripped away from with situations out of their control. Reigns was from Leukemia, Edge from a career-ending neck injury, and same with Daniel Bryan who was forced to retire in 2016. All three men with one clear purpose to be the top-tier talent and face of the company.

Edge won the men’s Royal Rumble to main event WrestleMania, all the while Bryan kept getting screwed out of the title so he was added to the mix. Roman Reigns played the relentless champion looking to retain his championship at any cost. If you’re reading this and you’re new to pro wrestling, this match is a great start to your journey. A terrific story told by three megastars who unleashed hell on each other.

The Universal Champion deflated all of Bryan’s momentum by completely pummeling his opponent. Reigns delivered a thunderous powerbomb to Bryan through the announce table. Edge hit a devastating spear for a “This is Awesome” chant. The ending of the incredible contest saw Reigns hit a nasty-looking ConChairTo to Edge and stacked him on top of Bryan to retain the Universal Championship impressively.
