A look at women's basketball talents

College basketball is in off-season mode but that doesn't mean we can't look back at the talent that made the 2021-22 season a success. Let's check out some of the women that you may or may not know but should on the hardcourt.

Lavender Briggs - Florida (Maryland Transfer)

Lavender Briggs is a native of Provo, Utah who played her first three collegiate seasons at Florida, before transferring to Maryland where she will debut next season. Briggs is a 6-1 guard who averaged 15.8 points in 61 games over her career. She averaged a career best 19.7 points per game during the 20-21 season and earned national attention when she poured in a career high 42 points against Arkansas where she shot 17-29 from the field. Briggs also averaged a career best 6.5 rebounds per game that season. Last season, she averaged a career low 12.5 points but also played a low of 14 games before leaving the program. She had some strong performances before departing including a 22-point, seven-rebound and three-steal effort in a win over TCU.

Diamond Battles - UCF (Georgia Transfer)

Diamond Battles wrapped up her career at Central Florida with her best season. She averaged 13.9 points where she drastically improved her three-point shooting. Prior to the season Battles made just seven threes on 31 attempts over three seasons. During her last season Battles knocked down 41 threes on 114 attempts. The 5-8 point guard from Winter Haven, Florida scored 20 or more points on six occasions this season. She led the UCF to a first round win in the NCAA Tournament over Florida as she scored 18 points, passed out seven assists and snagged four rebounds. Battles led UCF to a 26-4 record with a 14-1 finish in the American Athletic Conference. Battles will compete during the 2022-23 season for Georgia.

Eylia Love - Georgia Tech

After a season as a reserve, Eylia Love became a regular starter for Georgia Tech and had a solid season. Love averaged 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds during her second year as a Yellow Jacket. The 6-1 guard also shot 40.4 percent from three-point territory. Love started the season with a 15-point performance in 20 minutes of action in a blowout win on the road against Central Michigan. She at least 20 points on two occasions. The first was 20-point performance against Boston College where she shot 64.3 from the field. Five games later Love scored a season best 26 points against Clemson. In that game she shot 62.5 percent. Love shot 41.7 percent from the field for the season but she had a stretch during the year where she proved to be a very efficient scorer. From Jan. 23 to Feb. 7 she shot 27-47, making 57.4 percent of her shots over a five-game stretch. Love is a native of Kansas City, Kansas.

Anika McGarity - Charleston

In her first year as a regular starter, Anika McGarity averaged 11.3 points per game. The 6-1 guard from San Antonio, Texas had three games with at least 20 points last season. She knocked down seven three pointers on 15 attempts when she scored a season's best 25 points in a victory over Williams & Mary. McGarity also drained seven threes on 10 attempts in a 22-point performance against Radford. McGarity hit three shots from three-point land in 12 games. She hit 74 shots from three during the season making 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. Her three-point percentage improved fifteen percent from her freshman season. McGarity averaged 1.1 steals and collected at least two steals on 10 occasions.
