Where is ‘rural America,’ and what does it look like?
Rural people and issues generally receive little attention from the urban-centric media and policy elites. Yet, rural America makes unique contributions to the nation’s character and culture as well as provides most of its food, raw materials, drinking water and clean air. The recent presidential election also reminds us that, though rural America may be ignored, it continues to influence the nation’s future.

In a merchant's house, children from wealthy and noble families gathered one day. The merchant, a well-educated man who had once attended university, had climbed the ladder of success. His father, who began as a simple, honest, and enterprising merchant, had exposed him to books. The merchant's business thrived, multiplying his wealth. He possessed both a kind heart and a sharp mind, but people spoke less about these qualities and more about his vast fortune.
THE SNAIL AND THE ROSE BUSH
The garden was enclosed by a hedge of hazel trees, with fields and meadows stretching beyond. In the center of the garden, a rosebush bloomed, and beneath the rosebush lived a snail. And what was inside the snail? Well, just the snail himself.
THE LOVES OF A FALSE COLLAR
Once upon a time, there was a dashing cavalier whose entire wardrobe consisted of a bootjack and a hairbrush. But he possessed the most exquisite cravat ever seen. This cravat had reached an age where one might reasonably consider marriage. One day, by chance, it found itself in the laundry alongside a garter.
The Butterfly's Quest for Love
The butterfly had a desire to get married, and as you might imagine, it wished to choose the most beautiful flower among all the flowers. The options were countless, and deciding among them was quite a dilemma.
THE PIGGY BANK
There was an array of toys in the children's room. At the very top of the wardrobe, the piggy bank took pride of place, shaped as a clay pig, complete with a coin slot cleverly carved into its back. It had already accumulated two large coins and numerous small change.
THE PEN AND THE INK BOTTLE
Look at all the wonders within this inkwell!" exclaimed someone who found themselves in a poet's study. "So many beautiful things! What will be the first masterpiece to emerge from it? Surely, it will be a remarkable work."
THE DAISY
In the countryside, near the main road, there sat an adorable cottage that you've undoubtedly noticed yourself. In front of it, there was a charming little garden adorned with colorful flowers and a vibrant green picket fence. Not far from there, along the edge of the ditch, amidst the lush grass, a petite daisy bloomed. Thanks to the sun, which showered it with warm rays, just like the grand and lavish garden flowers, it opened more and more with each passing hour.
