2 Big Don'ts and 1 Huge Do During a PR Blunder
It is an inevitable fact of business, especially in this day and age. Company scandals and bad PR moments are bound to happen. We business owners can’t control everything that goes on within or outside the confines of our businesses. We rely on tens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of employees. We are dealing with hundreds if not millions of consumers on a daily basis. This means controlling what goes on is nearly impossible.
Breakfast Sandwich Makers are Tools for Mourning
The Breakfast Sandwich Maker is a $15 tribute to American economic malaise. It hit the market at a time when the U.S. Department of Labor stopped counting people who gave up fruitlessly looking for work in their unemployment statistics in a desperate attempt to paint a rosier picture of the Great Recession. Well-paid talking heads in big coastal cities were telling average Joes and Janes in flyover country that the new normal was scraping by with a little help from the dole. And as so-called experts sat with garbage smiles and wagging fingers, telling flyover country to check its privilege as jobs went overseas and foreclosures stole homes, this machine made its debut on Meijer and Walmart shelves. And while its utility in the kitchen may be questionable at best, this machine and its generic knock-offs served a greater purpose: to help working-class men and women to grieve the passing of the Good Life.

When I was a young, would-be writer and artist, like most others around me with the same aspirations, I thought success and achievement came from having talent and perspective. Wanting to be novelists and poets, painters and musicians, dancers and filmmakers, we worshiped talent in others and doubted it in ourselves. We saw the affectations of attitude and pretension in others and embraced those like a faith. We thought if we could find the talent and act the part, success would naturally follow.

It was the time of the year once more for the Super Bowl. I was the newest driver at work. On certain occasions throughout the year, everybody is required to be at work, like on Super Bowl Sunday. When I arrived at work that day, all of the other driver’s were busy beavers. Folding boxes, washing the dishes and putting them back in their proper places, answering the phones, filling up large containers of pizza sauce, and attending to the ovens in the front of the Store.

A lot of people claim that in the digital world everyone gets the same shot; this usually isn’t the case. You see, even online not everyone’s word is worth the same, which is exactly what sets some people apart as influencers. While to some, this influx of attention from the general populace seems as a fluke or a lucky set of circumstances, there is no such thing as luck. There is a reason why some people turn out to be influencers and others don’t. Needless to say, most of these tips can be applied to your business as well. With this in mind, here are few things that I picked up from social media influencers over the course of years.

It’s sandal season. I’ve been trying to understand why so many women are wearing blue nail polish this summer. It feels as if, all of sudden, everyone got the word and embraced a new color palette. Do you ever wonder how things get popular and reach scale quickly?
