The Importance of Song Lyrics
Lyrics are not poetry and lyricists are not poets. I say this not to denigrate lyrics as an art form. Quite the opposite. By insisting that the two are the same thing, we miss the vital point that high quality lyrics are valuable on their own merit. Worse, we give credence to the sub Sixth Form witterings of Jim Morrison, a man who was neither a competent poet nor lyricist.

Surprisingly Good, Cheap Mechanical Keyboards.
Have you ever been over to a fellow gamer's house, maybe in your early introduction to the world of quality hardware, and marvelled at the technology he (or she) had? Maybe you were entranced by the RGB-everything, or the curved 21:9 monitor, or the insane level of silence his water-cooling system could achieve. Or, what about his keyboard? Did you think of that? Ya know, the one with the fancy Cherry MX Blues in it that went all "clickety-clackety? Yeah. That one. Besides its silky smooth response and its satisfying sound, what was so special about it? Probably the fact that it was about $200.

Movie Review: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
I cannot decide which is the more difficult type of review: positive without fawning, negative without being mean-spirited or ambivalent. The last type of review is where I find myself with the new movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets:; utter and complete ambivalence. There is much to admire about the latest from director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional, among others) but there is also plenty of empty, sci-fi spectacle.
